No thread on this? Weird. Reports are that this guy--note the Ford Escape in the video--is the attacker...
Well, that is fucking horrible. I will wait until the information actually comes out to form any other opinions or throw around any unfounded accusations at people. I am not saying that person @Paladin is pointing at is innocent, but we can wait for the fucking announcement of who is in custody since I am sure the police would have a lot of camera footage of the incident to identify the person. It seems like Paladin is just a little to happy to distract from the Arbery trial.
I think the correct right wing sentiment is if only more people had guns this could have been prevented because they do say someone was shooting at the truck.
I am going to say if we keep up the flames and pushing people towards fear and hate this is going to happen more and more in the gatherings we all have. So maybe some people might want to contact their media, I am looking at you right and left wing, and try to get some de-escalation and views of the other side as not that bad. I do not know who this guy is, but I am thinking he is one of the first kernels to pop and we have a whole bunch of oil and millions of kernels waiting. This is not going to be a war, but rather a large increase in local violence and cancellation of big events to keep crowds at a minimum.
I was reading where some said the driver might have been fleeing the scene of a crime and was already in pursuit by police. If that is the case then it is really unfortunate that more warning could not have been made to the parade.
We seem to be leaning towards the "deliberate attack" angle here, but what I've seen from the BBC reporting is that the police don't think that/aren't willing to say that right now and there are hints the driver was fleeing another scene at speed and may have simply tried to barge through to make his escape. Reckless driving/vehicular manslaughter but no premeditation. Edit: Mirah posted simultaneously.
Also seeing information on the suspect in custody. If he was fleeing a scene I think he could have gotten out of his vehicle and ran or tried to hide, but the fact that he did plow into people-that was a choice. So I am going to go with "fleeing a scene" and "deliberate attack".
This fucking genius, after plowing through a parade of people, parked his SUV in his driveway with a smashed windshield, crumpled up bumper and the license plate hanging from the ride
I keep reading that some of his social media and videos have already disappeared. How is that possible so quickly? Also I am seeing reports that say he is the owner of this vehicle-the person in custody, but it has not been confirmed who the driver was-or if there were other people in the vehicle. And as I type this just know that I haven't searched everywhere for every bit of information-so it may be out there. I just have not seen it.
So this guy's trial is wrapping up. I've been reading the social media blow-by-blow and he's: - dismissed his attorneys to represent himself pro se - utterly failed to demonstrate any actual lawyer capabilities he couldn't have learned by watching actors yell "Objection!" on TV - tried to use one sovereign citizen "gotcha" after another, over and over again - constantly spammed thousands of objections at everything the prosecution says, or even his own witnesses say if it wasn't what he wanted, with no clue what the grounds for a reasonable objection actually are - verbally abused the judge and everyone else the whole time - called family members of the victims to the stand, expecting them to say anything at all in his favor or that he could pick apart to destroy the prosecution's case, which if you remember includes actual video of him actually driving into the crowd - shown major "controlling narcissist misogynist" vibes the whole time - transparently baiting contempt of court charges and any other reactions that he could base an appeal off of - been kicked out of the courtroom to telecommunicate from another room - been so disruptive there that the judge keeps having to mute his mike - while in the separate room, actually built a wall out of banker's boxes so the judge couldn't see him on camera Fortunately, none of the judge, prosecutors, or witnesses are having any of it, and every expectation is that he's gonna be in prison until the sun goes out. Or somebody shanks him.
Lmao I hadn't heard this yet. The dude is nuts. Or at least he is trying to convince the court he's nuts in order to be found not guilty by reason of insanity, or aiming at a mistrial. It's not gonna work because he has no clue what he's doing.
