Okay, if there's a thread from the original three seasons, I couldn't find it. I was late to this one during the first run as none of the surface subject matter really catches my viewing attention. My work mate kept telling me I needed to see it though, so between my usual habits, I watched it and fell in love. At the end of it all, it's a show about healing emotionally. I guess that does fit my scope of interests after all... Anyways, watch the first 3 seasons if you somehow missed them and then come back to this thread as from here on the presumption is we know what the next three seasons are built from. Season 4 , episode 1 just dropped. We already know Ted's going back to Blighty to coach the new women's league team. This time it isn't just the team, but the league which is struggling. Episode 1 is the reunion... Rebecca, Keeley, and Higgins fly out to Kansas City to talk Ted into taking the job is this chapter's plot. There's a bit of a trope flip in bringing characters from a show set in Europe to the States and having them take in the local sites. It works. A lot of good local humour done the Lasso Way. Keeley and Rebecca's scenes are a bit shallow, but I think will set up the "management of expectations" journey. I know it's more dumb luck than anything, but Keeley strikes me as a Kaylee archetype. Speaking of Rebecca, glad that her handsome stranger worked out this well. Again, good job establishing the most likely hurdles that'll face over the next three series. Higgins' side trip to the Negro Leagues museum was interesting. More travelogue than anything, but one of the shown not told things about him has always seemed to be his affinity for Black culture and contributions. Clearly he's inspired at the end of it. Ted's realization that he wants to go back is arrived at honestly enough. Coasting is fine, as he can likely afford to, but is it satisfying? Clearly not. Loved the call back to a throwaway line of the first act being the payoff gag in the last when he finally decides he wants this new challenge. Opening scene has a Tarantino tribute: Red Apple cigarettes ANyways, if you haven't yet watched it. Go take care of that.
Loved the first 3 seasons, I remember how refreshing it was to see a show with such positive messaging Hopefully going to start the 4th season tonight
I loved the show but have mixed feelings about a Season 4. There series ended almost perfectly; not sure if another season is needed. Going to avoid this thread for a bit as I'm going to wait until more episodes drop so I can binge it.
fair enough... I wound up watching the first episode of "Ride or Die" with Hannah Waddingham and Octavia Spencer last night... hilarious. Nothing groundbreaking in the trope of "my secret life has just been revealed to my best friend", but well acted and with just enough of a hook to make the plotline intriguing.
