It will be a bloodbath for the Republicans. They're going to lose control of House and Senate both. That said, the screams of fraud and cheating that will come out of the White House may well cause a constitutional crisis.

The only thing that might make it less likely is the fact that Trump, being a narcissist, cares MUCH less about other Republicans' losses than his own. He might shriek about cheating, or he might just go on bender after bender posting about how they lost because they didn't kiss his ass enough.

Probably the thing that will bother him the most is the prospect of getting his third impeachment.

    This ad is kinda hilarious:

Somebody on an MSNow panel made the point that hundreds of thousands of dollars' worth of securities fraud is hard for people to relate to, but footage of somebody seeing another guy's expensive pen and deciding to walk away with it is easier to grasp. (It also illustrates what a petty-ass little bitch he is.)

The Republican nominee for Congress in the Texas 23rd:
    • Filmed a video of himself goosestepping to 1930s Nazi marching songs, posing with a Nazi submachine gun, and calling it "the original ghetto blaster."
    • Filmed himself shooting a dummy of Martin Luther King Jr.
    • Referred to children as "cum trophies." (The full quote isn't any better: "The fact that you kept your cum trophy doesn't make you any less wrong about the dumb shit that you say. Being a mother doesn't make your opinion any more or less valid. Just because you let somebody creampie you doesn't mean I have to give a shit about your political opinions.")

The guy he's trying to replace is the rep who had an affair with a staffer who then killed herself (though she apparently blamed her husband's affair for driving her to do it).

Gonzalez wasn't great, but at least he wasn't a nut like this Brandon gun freak. :jayzus:

There's a headline titled "One of Congress’ Most Scandal-Plagued Republicans May Be About to Lose His Primary," and it's not about the guy who assaulted his wife and likes to play power games by refusing to give back his toddler daughter's favorite stuffed bunny.

    No, it's about this guy:
    • February 2025: Washington, DC, police nearly arrest Mills after a girlfriend calls 911 and accuses him of domestic assault; she recants the accusation after reportedly being pressured to do so by the congressman.
    • May 2025: Army veterans accuse Mills of obtaining a Bronze Star through stolen valor.
    • August 2025: An ex-girlfriend—whom Mills was cheating on with the partner who accused him of abuse—seeks a restraining order against Mills after the congressman is accused of threatening to potentially share explicit videos recorded during their relationship.
    • October 2025: A Florida judge grants the restraining order after finding that a key part of the congressman’s testimony in the “dating violence” case had not been “truthful.”
    • November 2025: The House Ethics Committee establishes a subcommittee to investigate allegations against Mills.
    • May 2026: The ethics committee reveals that it has authorized more than 20 subpoenas and obtained thousands of documents as part of its investigation into “serious and complex” allegations against Mills.
    • July 2026: NBC News reports that Mills is under investigation by the Department of Justice; sources tell ABC News that the investigation is partly about his finances. Mills responds by saying there is no confirmation that he is under investigation.
Is there anyone left in the Republican party with enough capacity for self-reflection that they can ask "Hmmm, if my party keeps attracting garbage individuals like this, what does it say about us?"

I was pretty much "formatted Republican" in my youth. If we had stayed in the Detroit area, it probably wouldn't have been as strong (though my family was very conservative), but since we moved up nearer to Port Huron, in redneck-farmer territory, it was almost a given that the Republicans were by far the best party.

It wasn't until the Reagan presidency that I began to be seriously disappointed with the Republicans. That was the beginning of a process that took a while, but ended up with me giving up on the GOP completely.

What astounds me today is that the Reagan Republicans, who disappointed me so much and precipitated that change, were angels compared to the Republicans today. Even George W. Bush, who was pretty much the final straw for me wanting anything to do with the Republicans, seems almost like a normal, reasonable president, compared to what we hear all the time today. It is amazing to see how far the Republicans have gotten from what they were 40 or 50 years ago, and yet so many people continue to support them because they have simply been formatted the way I was: "Republicans good, Democrats bad".

I'm not chasing a link but wait until you see the epic faceplant from Lindsey's sister at tonight's debate. South Carolina really needs to shock the world in November because either of those nimrods would be a Tuberville level national embarrassment.

I don’t get why this is a bad thing?

Dems aren’t Republicans. We actually want to get things done to improve the lives of Americans.

And unless we get veto-proof majorities in both houses that means we gotta find things that Trump will sign.

Regardless Kushner wouldn’t be meeting if they thought they would keep the House so that’s a good sign.

WTF do you think that Congress is going to be able to accomplish to improve people's lives so long as the Trumps are in power? Also, WTF do you think that they talked about other than ensuring the US keeps sending money and weapons to Israel?

God damn, dude, surely you can't be this naive, can you? Even if, and we're talking about saying that maybe folks like FF have a point when they say that the South would have gotten rid of slavery if people had just been nicer to them, we grant that there was an honest attempt to figure out ways to help people, we can't trust Kushner's or Trump's word that they'll hold to their end of the bargain.

And we ain't gotta find shit. All we gotta do is dig in our heels and grind everything to a fucking halt. We're not going to get Trump to stop the war with Iran. We're not going to get Trump to increase funding for social programs. We're not going to get him to act like a decent human being. Yeah, sure, if we had someone like Mamdani in Congress who could charm Trump into doing something, that didn't involve any effort on his part, we might be able to get a few things done. But we don't. And we're gonna be goddamned lucky if we do get a bunch of Democrats elected to Congress that this doesn't result in a Civil War. Because Trump is going to be very unlikely to accept this, and we've seen, over and over again, that the Republicans are more than happy to let Trump break any laws he wants to.

If he says that he doesn't accept the results of the elections, and the GOP leadership goes along with him, then what? Should Jefferies call up Kushner and say, "While I don't agree with what Trump is doing, I want to work with you so that we can ensure the continued prosperity of the American people"?

Seriously, dude, WTF? What the fucking fuck? And this is ignoring the fact that Kushner isn't an official member of the Trump administration.

I mean, even before Trump, extending the olive branch to the GOP meant giving them an inch and them eventually taking a fucking mile.

Carney just said it: America's signature on any agreement right now is written in pencil.

There is NO faith to be had in any negotiation with these cunts.

    None.

I loved that line when I listened to his speech. So true, unfortunately.

And nothing can be done about it because although the American constitution says Congress has to approve treaties, it doesn't say how they can be ended, so a president can do it on his own, without needing anyone's approval. If somehow America survives Trump and a reasonable administration comes into office, any agreements they make with other countries can be ended by a later president just because he feels like it.
