As much as everything sucks right now, I realized something: In November, for Senate, I get to vote for Abdul El-Sayed, and for the House, I get to vote for Donavan McKinney. That's the first time in my life I've ever phrased voting for specific candidates like that: get to. Every other time I've voted, it's either been "I'm voting for the Democrat because I hate them less than the Republican; I hope they don't fuck up too badly" or "I'm voting third party, hopefully the two big parties will get the message that they suck and knock it off." This time, for the first time ever, I can vote for two different candidates that I actually fucking like, who I think might actually do a good job. That's definitely something.
Unfortunately, I only get to vote for one. (I vote in a deep-red district that would never dare put a social democrat on the ballot, though there is no real reason not to, because no Democrat has the slightest chance of actually getting elected.)
Yes. And for citizens who have never lived in the US, like my kids, it is the last address of the parent who did live there.

The FBI Anti-Corruption Squad Was Circling Susan Collins — Until Trump Got in the Way Short version: in 2024 the FBI built toward a sweeping bribery probe of Sen. Susan Collins based on a defense contractor’s detailed confession, only for the case to die after Trump purged the agency’s public corruption units.
He was the only guy on the Blue Collar tour I ever enjoyed. I went to see him live a few years ago with my wife, and enjoyed it a lot. I'm glad to see my Fandom was not misplaced.
For the military you have a Home of Record which starts at where you lived when you enlisted or you can change it to anywhere you have been stationed. This is the address you’ll vote in, pay taxes in and where the Army will move you when you get out (not the exact address but to that area). A lot of folks will move their Home of Record to TX or WA for the no state income tax or to AK for the yearly oil check but you are required to move back there when you get out.
Tammy Duckworth can shove this idea right up her ass. This is how the ratchet effect works. "Let's move on" and no one faces consequences for the heinous shit they've done, they get to save face, years down the line they have the agency to do it all over again and make it worse. Meanwhile, if your hungry ass steals food in order to survive and you're arrested, you go to jail. Sen. Duckworth Urges Democrats to Not Impeach Anybody and "Get Back to Work" If They Win Majority Source: https://www.c-span.org/clip/public-...get-back-to-work-if-they-win-majority/5206997 Video at the link.
Charitably I could see that as her pointing out that the presidential veto still exists so a "we'll play nice if you play along nicely" approach may be needed to actually get things into law.
That is certainly a possibility, and it shows how broken things truly are that one branch of government has near total power over every other aspect of the entire US political system. It is in spirit, if not official capacity, a dictatorship.
What things? More money for the military? More tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations? Because that’s the only things Trump and the Republicans will agree to.
Not sure I agree with that. Mind you, I'm not in favour of impeaching Trump, even though he deserves it ten times more than even Nixon did, because the last thing I want is a President Vance, seen as a martyr, running the country and then running for re-election in 2028 as an incumbent. But I would be all for impeaching at least half of the cabinet. I would really like to see the Democrats take over congress (though I have serious doubts about whether or not that will be possible, even if the urns say so), but not so they can "work with the Republicans". I want Democrats who will oppose 90% of what Trump has been doing. Let him veto everything; it's still better than the rubber-stamp "congress" that is currently in his pocket. And I want Democrats who will contest everything, all the way to the Supreme Court, in order to stall (even if they can't always block, because of SCOTUS being so much in Trump's pocket as well) his agenda as much as possible. I'm glad to be able to vote in Michigan, where there is actually a senate candidate who hopefully will work for real changes, and not just for "bipartisan cooperation in order to get laws passed".
While it certainly looks like it’s shaping up to be a good or great midterm election for the Democrats, I’m disillusioned by the squishy 10% in the middle of American politics. Those people decide elections and they are a manic and incoherent lot. At most, I think a national party gets four years in power before it flips. Which makes the Supreme Court even more relevant and impactful on people’s lives and not how the founders intended.
No. Impeach, remove, convict. That's the only way we can start to rebuild our allies' trust in us again. The orange moron and his sycophants have done enormous damage to America's standing in the world and unless they're completely crushed and repudiated we'll never get it back.
Usually. CNN reporting suggests Trump's underwater with "independents" (actual ones not FF/Paladin/UA "I voted third party but hold my beer while I tongue Trump's arsehole" types) across multiple polls. https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/en...ependents-approval_n_6ab4f91ee4b07f5e6ae0d958 As always - some time to go until the elections and only polls that matter are the results yadda yadda. But Trump shouldn't be the only GOP leader investing in Depends right now.
Go fuck yourself with your "you support him by default unless you read from our script." I didn't vote for him, I don't endorse his policies, and I'm not responsible for his actions.
There might be primitive microbes that believe this - you may even hang out with some after a hard day welding - but literally no-one here would buy it if it came with a free handjob.
This is the exact stupid shit that will torpedo the Democrats. "They all suck! Except my guy, of course."
I've evolved a lot of my personal politics in the last 2 decades, but I bet if I look in the old 2006ish post history here I could find my loathing for the 2 week memory brained squishy middle in this country. That loathing is still there today.
Look, if we want to have guns without reasonable efforts to keep them out of the hands of criminals or the insane (Ken Paxton displaying some atypical self-awareness on both counts), we have to attribute gun deaths to some divine plan because otherwise it's on us, and we can't have THAT.
These are the pretzels you have to twist your soul into to have the indefensible position of gun rights trumping all other rights. They paint into a corner, and then they have to have God throw them a helicopter rope out. It's the flag of surrender.
That's a fair point, too, and I may just be reading the worst case scenario in this one. I'm just so tired of capitulation to a madman that it's no longer surprising and I've almost come to expect it, so I may be reading that bias into her comments.
Ah, the old, "We'll agree to let the Republicans increase military spending, so they won't cut school lunch programs any more than they already have." plan. You know, I'd be fine with that, if the Democrats actually pushed for things they know people want, but the Republicans are opposed to. You know, like a law protecting abortion. "Oh, but that never would have made it through Congress." And? At least you could say that you tried, and what stopped you was that there weren't enough Democrats in Congress. "But why waste time on a bill you know is going to fail?" Because, as the Republicans have shown, since they now control all three branches of government, it not only ensures that your base votes in every election, but when you do get a majority large enough to pass shit, you can run the table on the opposition because you've already got the bills written.
I don't care what you believe. I didn't vote for him, I don't support him, and I'm not responsible for anything he does, fucking period. Does that obligate me to support any particular other person, recite the same bitchy partisan memes, cheer for assassination attempts? Hell goddamn no it doesn't, and your inability to wrap your head around that fact is not my fucking problem.[/I]
Yes, UA parroting the same exact transphobic talking points as the administration is just happy coincidence. They're just such good ideas. *Snicker, chortle*
