I don’t know your record, but if you’re telling the truth about your record, then I don’t see why you shouldn’t be able to posses a firearm. Should you really be punished for the rest of your life because of something that happened 35 years ago, I don’t think so. That of course depends on what that charge was.

dude, you live in a country that deprives felons of their voting rights...

but yeah, one step above aggravated assault. so a mandatory 10 year ban and an unofficial lifetime one. I don't have much to worry about if I'm up north or something plinking cans with someone's 22, but the hoops and costs to get legit? What the fuck do i even need a gun for?

That said, I can still walk into the store and buy an 800fps crossbow...

And if they rehabilitate themselves and do their time and blah, blah blah, they should be able to have their voting rights restored, IMO.

I can easily make a pneumatic device that can shoot a blast of nails with enough force to push them through a road sign. All with legally bought items from Walmart. More interestingly I know where I can legally go to buy 6000 PSI tanks and valves with no ID. 6000 PSI is enough pressure to be able to shear off skin with just air friction.

I love guns and shooting things. But there are a lot of other things I love a lot more. Do you know how many drugs I could smoke for the same amount of money as an AR-15 and ammo? Also, do you know how much more fun I could have on the paintball field actually legally shooting willing people for the money spent on a gun you can only shoot at a range and really cannot play war with in any legal sense. Do you know what sort of security devices I could set up with the cost of an assault rifle and ammo and how much more effective they would be?

The only sort of person who is going to get top value for their dollar with a gun and ammo is an ammosexual. I am not kink shaming, but that is the sort of person who is really going to get relatively greater pleasure for spending their money on guns.

It can be difficult to comprehend the mindset of somebody who commits mass murder. Clearly they are "not right in the head," but there's no single identifiable cause or condition we can point to. Meanwhile it doesn't help to stigmatize people with mental health issues, as overall they are far more likely to be victims than perpetrators of violence.

Albert is repeating the Russian lie about Ukraine being merely a "Special Operation", I see.

Never had him figured for a Putin stooge.

Well I can buy him thinking the whole "striding bare-chested across a forest stream" pic was something to live up to.

You didn't lose anything, but if you were an American, you would have lost a constitutionally guaranteed right. In my book, that's a big deal.

na... I forfeited it when I stabbed a guy a multiple times and he managed not to die. Even then, my right to self preservation was acknowledged in the reduced sentence I was lucky enough to get.

Yet I can still participate in the governance of my country... hell, I could even still campaign and be elected to a lower office.

where in that constitutional right of yours are firearms specifically mentioned, anyway? I mean, I can still train or transport a sword, bow, crossbow, axe, or light saber. And quite frankly they're all more practical to me if I found myself having to engage people in kevlar...

Frankly, anyone with a DV charge should forfeit their ability to bear firearms and surrender any firearms they have.

    I call the gun-nut version "amendment 2.5".
It's unrecognizable from the militia version.

Hey, don't argue with me. Argue with the general who trained more US soldiers than any other living at the moment.

Or the family of the man who invented the weapon itself, for that matter. They indicated that man came to believe the same thing.

what part of "for all intents and purposes" didn't you understand?

IIRC, there was a similar issue with the FAL (FN-C1) here. While available for limited (restricted class, i think it was called) civilian purchase, the ease with which a competent gunsmith could convert one to full auto capability (along with a standard 20 rnd mag) made it against the public interest to continue to do so.
