No, it’s @steve2^4 ’s, as he started it, and then left because he got butthurt over the fact that Twitter was a good source of information about such incidents.

Ah shit, I thought it had been awhile since I had seen him post...didn't realize it had been two months. :(

I understand both sides of the steve vs. everyone else who loves Twitter debate. On the one hand, Twitter is a convenient way to post snippets of information that people might not otherwise be inclined to look at, and also helped with some revolutions in the Midle East a decade or so ago. But on the other hand, Twitter is a frustrating platform to use for more than just that, and also directly contributed to Trump's rise, Russian troll bots, and the shitshow we are in right now.

Also people spam Tweets to the extent it breaks board functionality, dismissing it because it doesn't affect them, and also the ease of sharing Tweets means some people just repeat them straight into WF without doing the most basic verification of their legitimacy.

Dude, my main PC is nearly a decade old, and wasn’t cutting edge when I built it. My phone’s an iPhone 12. Steve’s an exec at an airline (or a cable company, he likes to play coy about what he did) in Atlanta. If tweets were fucking up the board for him like he claimed, that’s his problem. He’s got the resources to solve the problem.

Personally, I think that his irrational hatred of Twitter has something to do with him not buying in on the ground floor and wishing that the platform would collapse so he wouldn’t be reminded that he missed out. YMMV.

Yes, it's our own personal phones and computers that are the issue, not a message board that breaks down every other week.

One thing that helped me, at least on my phone, was to change the number of posts per page to the lowest number. Tweets load faster, so long as every post on a page isn't a Tweet.

 Sucks to be you. If I were to put somebody on ignore, people would have a shitfit about it since I'm a mod. So, I just scroll past posts from people I can't be bothered to read what they say and go on with my life. Been a long time since I've advocated for someone being banned here. If I can manage to scroll past bullshit I don't want to read, so can you. And I'll point out that a post that contains nothing more than a tweet is a lot easier to scroll past than some of the digital diarrhea that Tererun posts here.

And you know what, in terms of income levels on this board, @Amaris, @Minsc&Boo, and I are probably at the bottom of the posters here. I don't know about @Minsc&Boo but I can assure you, that if @Amaris and I can figure out a way that threads consisting of nothing but tweets, such as this one, don't cause us problems, then assgaskets like @steve2^4 can absolutely figure it out. Without a lot of effort or even being tech-savvy.

Seriously, dude. You have no idea of the real-world bullshit I have had to deal with for the past 10 fucking years. (Fun fact: That was the last time I could afford to own a car.) I have had to scrape my fingers to the goddamned bone to try and keep a roof over my head, to help a close friend of mine stay alive, deal with the death of my father, the suicide of my only nibling, the suicide of someone I've known since fucking birth, and a host of other things. Yet, somehow, posting tweets to an obscure message board is an issue because people who make more money than I do might have to wait a couple of extra seconds for a page to load is a problem? Give me a fucking break.

Even with health insurance, I can't afford to go see a doctor, but a guy who lives in a country where everyone can see a doctor whenever they want is upset that I post tweets because it bothers some prick in the US who's an exec at a large corporation, and I'm supposed to care? WTF are you smoking? Motherfucker, I've told my friends who live in countries with socialized medicine that if their government looks like they might do away with such things that I'll run guns to their country to stop it. Why? Because I know, from first-hand experience, exactly what it's like to not be able to afford even $4 for a prescription for a medical condition that's a serious health issue. Now, add to that fact that I've got friends who are likely to die in the next 10 years or so because we don't have socialized medicine here. And you want me to care about how tweets might affect people who don't have to worry about such things? Eat shit.

Seriously. Go look at the shit that @steve2^4 posted about things like VPNs, BitTorrent, and a host of other things. He claimed that the only reason why someone would want to use them is because they were pirating things. In the wake of the SCOTUS ruling tossing out Roe, those very things might keep someone needing healthcare from going to prison. I'll also point out that he donates to PETA, which as this video points out (with links to documentation) is a terrorist organization that kills animals they claim to protect.

So don't expect me to give any complaints about tweets being posted here any kind of cred. If someone has a problem with them, that's on them. Not me. If I can manage to deal with all kinds of bullshit and not have tweets fucking up my experience, then so can someone who has far more advantages than I do. :bergman:

Okay, now I'm going to get "ugly." Please, explain to me how the shit we post here is even remotely comparable to the fact that 10-year-old girls are having to be transported out of state so that they can have an abortion after they've been raped. Because that's what's happening in the US right fucking now. And if we don't see dramatic changes in the US very soon, even that will be impossible.

Oh, it takes a couple of extra seconds for a page on some obscure armpit of the internet to load because somebody posted a bunch of tweets to it. The horror! My god, man, the country I live in is on the verge of civil war, and you think that I'm somehow out of line for posting tweets? And you somehow think that people who have more advantages than me are impacted worse than I am?

Eat shit. I'm dismissing it because it's utterly fucking unimportant. Why you can't grasp that I don't know. But given that I've been able to post reasons for why I do what I do, and you can't be bothered to do more than post that you're ignoring my reasons then it's fairly obvious to me you're not at all interested in having a discussion on the subject.

You asserted a reason why someone objects to walls of tweets.

I posted examples of other reasons they annoy some people (myself included).

Yes shit in your country is fucked, however that doesn't change the fact that dozens of embedded tweets on a page can often damage page loading, or result in people not paying attention to them because they know the content in them hasn't been verified or looked into with any more depth than the walls of videos that FF used to spam the board with. :clyde:

    Electrical superstorms...

has anyone considered that maybe the problem isn't the tweet linking, but neglecting housekeeping like clearing histories and such?

That said, if I have to click on anything to read the info posted, I'm probably not going to. I generally click the wrong part of the posted link anyways and by the time I figure out where the info I want is, I don't care any more. I also hate how too often the tweet is just a link to a link to a link to the original story.

I have to weigh in on this now.

I honestly didn't really care about this while "tweets slow the page down" thing. I've never had an issue with it, even though it takes a few seconds for the tweet to completely load to be able to read it. Before it loads completely it looks like Dayton's attempts to quote a post.

I post from several devices, including tablets, phones, a laptop. I run an ad blocker on my laptop, but not on phones or tablets. So get loads of ads on the tablets and phones when clicking on an article to read that's linked on here. The ads do a whole lot more to slow down the pages loading on those devices. Sometimes even to the point where the article doesn't load and I have to reload the page.

Is it annoying, yes. But does it ruin my day, does it cause me to go into a rage, do I let it affect me to the point that I feel the need to bitch about it. No.

I know I'm bitching about on this post. but that's to illustrate the point. Hell, there several BBS's out there that have ads on them that affect the page loading much more than having tweets posted on them. I'm posting this on a tablet, and checked TBBS, five fucking ads loaded on there, and they took longer to load than the tweets do on here. And those ads made the page and topics bounce up and down while they loaded.
