During the downtime from season one, I bought the complete comic collection of The Boys.

I'm now totally screwed up between what happened in the show and what happened in the comic.

Gonna have to binge season one again before September!

Homelander finally killed someone without using his eye beams. I think he's growing as a person. Hmm... nah, that doesn't need spoiler tags, Homelander kills lots of people.

    This might:

Does anyone else think The Deep's gills sound more like Richard Dryfuss than Patton Oswalt?

It *is* Patton Oswalt, right? I thought it sounded like Andy Richter.

One thing I thought of during the first season - the top-line obvious theme is "what if Superman, except a psychopath?" but underneath there is a (possibly unwitting) then of "LOL so OP!"

I mean yes it's a world without supervillians (initially) but it's stark how Homelander has to exert basically no effort to dispatch whomever he wants.

The general theme seems to be that supes created later are weaker than Homelander (Stormfront is likely the closest to him in power and was created earlier but whilst Vought was still perfecting the process) deliberately as they don't want anyone else as strong as him causing trouble, given how much they have to clean up after him.

He trades on his rep a lot, though. When he took out the African supe, he picked him specifically because he'd be an easy victory. If a fight ever actually caused him pain (his slapfight foreplay with Stormfront notwithstanding) I think he'd freak out.

I have to say, season 2 seemed a bit meh for me up to this last ep (6 I think?). There's only so much impact superhero shock porn can have.

But this ep really paid off in character development and furthered the plot. I am definitely into it for the last few eps this season.

It just occurred to me that if The Deep wasn't such an emotional cripple and idiot on every level, he could be the most effective supe, on his own, than anyone on The 7. He is so desperate to be on the team. He's lost without it, but he's the one supe that doesn't need a team. He's got the tools to be a team unto himself. He can know everything that goes on in the world's oceans, and be in a position to influence all of it. He'd have to stay in his own lane, but it's a big fucking lane.

Yeah, as progressive as "girls can fight too!" is, I'm not sure the message that "empowerment is the ability to kick the shit out of someone" is a good one right now, or ever.

Of course. It was a horrible fight, but at least the women were presented as real, powerful superhumans doing 'realistic' things for reasons that made sense. It felt much more earned than the infamous scene from Endgame.

That said, I practically cheered when Maeve showed up. I still wish Starlight would kick some more ass, though. She seems ridiculously underpowered.

She just needs to pick her ground better. Black Noir seems to have some form of super-reflexes and strength. When he got the drop on her her best move would be to use flight, since he can't... You'll note that while he could knock her out, it took a beating that would kill a normal person, and she was back up and about again in hours. Likewise, her schtick is energy projection which is also Stormfront's... if Stormfront can tank Homelander's eye beams (with scarring) then Starlight's not likely putting out enough juice - or not getting angry enough to do so... Stormfront did back down from Homeboy when she pushed him too far over the troll farm stuff, and Ryan did an Obi-Wan on her ass, so she has limits.

The scene where Darth Stormfront was muttering Nazi stuff in German was legitimately creepy. And the guy playing Homelander continues to be the series MVP. He's just so good.

Thing is? It wasn't Nazi stuff. She was hallucinating talking to Vought about their daughter.
