It's fucking horrific. Which I guess makes me a paedo, according to deSantis' spokesperson (I use the word person only because I don't know the correct pronoun for a talking piece of shit):

The idea of groomers and pedophiles is projection since most republicans either are groomers and pedophiles or support them and give them their children. I wonder how much @Federal Farmer 's mom gets paid to rent his ass out to Trump and Desantis? Someone should check her Venmo.

No, see, you didn't get the "cheat sheet"...

Creepy blue collar guy in van + boy victim = pedophilia.
Sexy female teacher + boy victim = not pedophilia.
Republican old man + girl victim = not pedophilia.
Catholic clergy + boy victim = momentary lapse that can be cured with prayer -or- the boy seduced him!
Mormon + girl victim = awww, sweeet, when's the wedding?
Bible-belter + own daughter = she'd better not abort that fetus! It might be Jesus!
Rich people + victims of any gender or species = :crickets:
    Homosexuals existing = pedophilia

Is there evidence to show there are teachers in FL who are grooming kids? Since we all know there isn’t, this bill is conservative performance art to appeal to Ron DeSantis’ impaired base. And boy does that shit sell in FL!

If you want to turn people into monsters, get a good moral panic going.
The Tulsa riot was whipped up over an imaginary black-on-white rape.

If you Google "Florida Teacher Grooming", a surprising amount of articles do come up

    https://www.google.com/search?q=florida teacher grooming&rlz=1C1OKWM_enCA901CA901&sxsrf=APq-WBugQRgr-3SqhbIag6ftOjVf8B8riw:1646763278009&ei=DZ0nYvKAPYi_0PEP2JyogAo&ved=0ahUKEwiyu9uhj7f2AhWIHzQIHVgOCqAQ4dUDCA8&uact=5&oq=florida teacher grooming&gs_lcp=Cgdnd3Mtd2l6EAMyBwgjELADECdKBAhBGAFKBAhGGABQAFgAYNgPaAFwAHgAgAEAiAEAkgEAmAEAyAEBwAEB&sclient=gws-wiz

They seem to mostly be straight teachers preying on children however, I only read one where it was a gay relationship

In any event, this bill seems like a terrible idea and if you support it you're likely a total cunt

Here's the text of the bill in question. Note that the language of the bill is such that if a student informs an employee of the school they attend (be it a janitor, cafeteria worker, or teacher) that the student is being abused by a parent, the employee is required to inform the parents of what the kid is saying, but not the police.

Forget the matter of if the kid is gay, straight, trans, or whatever. If a kid feels that they are being mistreated by their parents, for whatever reason, employees are required to inform the parents of the kid what the kid said. Now, obviously, there are going to be times where kids claim that their parents are "fascists" because the parent took away the kid's XBox because the kid was failing in school. What about the times when a kid says that they're being molested by one of their parents? (Children are most often going to be abused by someone well-known to the family, be it a relative or a friend of the family.) I think we can both agree that a kid saying not being able to use their XBox due to bad grades is a vastly different issue than a kid saying that they were being molested by a parent. So if the kid is being molested by a parent, why should the teacher have to tell the parent about that? The authorities? Yes. Obviously. But why would you want to give the parent inflicting abuse upon a kid the head's up that the kid is complaining about them?

But I thought righties that support this bill DIDN'T want kids to be molested.
Why, it's almost like they love bigotry more than their own children.
Oh, wait, they throw kids out on the streets for being gay, of course they love hate more.

Don't neglect the abuser mentality. They are doing it for the good of the abused. They are just tyrying to stop the abused from doing the acts that troigger the abuser, and if they would just stop doing those things then no one would get hurt.

IMO the don't say gay bill is a bit more like closing the barn door after the horse got out. It is horrible, of course, but with the modern internet readily available to most florida children it does not accomplish much.

The other things mentioned here that criminalize trans care for minors is much more of a way to attack trans parents and allies who seek to provide safety and defense of their kids. If you are trans, then you threaten your parents and family's good record which will destroy things for everyone else including your siblings and relatives. If my mom lets me get trans care she would lose all of her children from a CPS investigation, and that could easily spread to aunts andf uncles who allowed me to be myself in their kid's presence. Then you have felony child abuse charges on you which is going to pop up every time you look for a job.

The don't say gay bill is bad, but Ken Paxton is actually trying to rat out and destroy the lives of allies and their families. The next step will be to criminalize crossdressing because of the children. They will try to place that in the sexual perversion area so they can weaponize megahn's law against transexuals.

Let us remember Paxton is an indicted criminal defendant who right wing texans will vote in again and again as AG in order to do this.

I am not as worried for Florida because the don't say gay bill is a loser. There are huge gay communities down here and a lot more acceptance. Scvhool sucks because you get wedged in with everyone, but there is access to affirmative care for GLBT kids all over the place that is not going away.

Again, this shit is a loser in large areas of florida. Yes, there are some areas of the panhandle and the Ocala area where this will be more effective, but florida is wired. A lot of the shit that gets elected is because the WW2 generation voted. COVID just wiped those bitches out, and the next two years is going to rid us of a huge majority of right wing trash.

The anti-gay hyate of the older generations is not as huge in florida schools. It may carry weight in the MAGA bubble in the midwest, but not as much here. Yes, it threatens teachers who want to acknowledge the kids, but this is a bit worthless over all.

The criminalization of GLBT allies as child abusers in texass is far worse and needs to be ended.

There is one thing I am wondering. According to the guidance given to florida teachers, they have to notify the authorities of any sign of abuse or mistreatment. That would be informing CPS of abuse. Abuse is not withholding a child playing X-box even though the child may think it is. A report of molestation to the teacher would have to be given to authorities according to the teachers I know in florida. I would assume the report to the parents would be given at the same time while CPS investigates.

I am not really sure where to put this, but @Amaris and @Nova there are supportive allies who are ready to fight. We don't need the teachers anymore, we need society to be there. We also have to stand up and say BLM and POC matter.

Because it got colloquially referred to as the "Don't Say Gay" bill, that gave him an excuse to be pedantic, deliberately and performatively misunderstand, and start another feedback loop. "Does the bill say nobody is allowed to say the word 'gay,' yes or no? Yes or no? Yes or no? "

I'm not so sure about that.

Reporting suspected child abuse to law enforcement is already mandatory under Chapter 39 of the Florida Statutes and nothing in this bill would change that.
