One thing that annoys me is the belters and their accent and their stupidity.

So this week our heroes hijacked a freighter, kidnapped its crew and got one of them killed.
    What the fuck?

Martian Marines on Earth - not sure they sufficiently got across how horriffic it must have been to try to function under three time your normal G. It'd be like trying to go about your business with two other people sitting on your shoulders. The Gunny deserves another purple heart just for standing up through her first interview!

Screenwriter cock-up. They messed with the books' timelines too much and left Holden without an excuse to be in a private freighter landing on Ganymede in the midst of a blockade by Earth and Mars, so he hijacked one.

In the books he was working with Fred Johnson to get to Ganymede to find out what the hell had gone wrong, and the OPA gave him a freighter to use to get through the Earth/Mars forces. Later on, still working for Fred, he and the plucky Roci crew were putting down space-pirates. This job was challenging to his philosophy but not completely so.

So this episode was frustrating. They hijacked a freighter and that's about it. They really need to quit dragging shit out, get on with it already.

Book 2 dragged (too much politics, not enough hot aliens...). That's where the 2nd season is right now. Book 3 is action packed (bit over the top).

Good to see Basia in this week's ep. For those not reading the books, he's prominent in #4. Of course, so is Havelock (Miller's partner in S1, who I think they killed off), so not sure how they'll handle that, assuming they get that far...

When they got to Ganymeade and they're in what looks like a makeshift refugee area, the one guy started calling Prax names and tried to attack him, saying he left his kid behind? That was Basia. Prax says his name before going over to him...that's how I knew.

That slingshot-around-the-jupiter-system dance the Roci computer set up was elegant, and it's always wonderful to see this show obey Newtonian physics. But that course would have take WEEKS to travel!

my reliable (typically) torrent site has inexplicably stopped uploading new episodes. I'm like 3 weeks behind now.

(doing this on a couple of other shows I was watching too)

book four kicked ass. Book 7 comes out in December. SyFy has a long lived series on their hands. Can they handle it?

How does a Martian get an Aussie accent anyway? :)

The highlights of these eps are Avasarallla (whatever) and her fuck-you attitude. Such a grand, gloriously lovely lady, dressed in dazzling finery, spouting things like "shut the fuck up and sit down."

Which Martian? Bobbie's ethnicity is Polynesian in the book. Alex is Indian, but grew up in an area of Mars that was settled by Texans (thus the drawl).

The Martian with the obvious Aussie accent, ya nut (Okay, Kiwi - the actress grew up in New Zealand).
Did Bobby grow up in Polynesia, or on Mars? Either way, there isn't much in-universe sense for her to have a Kiwi accent.

New Zealand is part of Polynesia. The book character, Bobbie, is of Polynesian descent. The authors highlight different cultures 200 years from now, not just the new Belter culture with their patois and distinct low-g body shape, but Earth and Mars people have retained, perhaps strengthened ethnicity even when it's adopted. In the case of the Rocinante pilot, Alex, his ancestors are Indian, but the accent is Texan for the area of Mars where he grew up. The show's writers and directors have followed this closely.

    Okee doke, then.
Actually, good to know it wasn't random casting, but following the book character pretty well.

I'm falling asleep in book 5. Could be a problem as I'm reading it in the car (audible book). Book 4 had me turning the pages as fast as I could (ok maybe not in the car but after I got home).

You're fine, sorry. That last post sounded like it was going to go into "here's what's going to happen according to the books" territory, and I'd just come from the TBBS discussion where book readers are getting out of hand with their "special knowledge" of what's going to happen. Some nutbar over there even said "If spoilers can ruin your enjoyment of a show, then you're not going to enjoy it anyway." WTF??
