Tererun - think hard now, my question is tricky - is it possible that somebody cannot believe a story because that story is unbelievable in and of itself? Should everyone believe this story JUST BECAUSE the victim HAPPENS TO BE BLACK AND GAY? Does being black and gay somehow, magically, make the story true? Do you realize that many people of color also don't believe this story? Read some of the comments after the articles! Jussie being black and gay is not the issue here. Most people don't give a shit - most people see a person making up a less-than-believable story and can even tell us why they think the story is false. You seem to be locked into a mindset of "you don't believe him thus you must be a racist and a homophobe!"

Let's flip this around (more tricky stuff alert) here: a not super well known straight white actor tells the same story (minus the rope) that he is attacked with a liquid and "THIS IS ANTIFA COUNTRY!" is shouted at him. I can too. It's a plausible scenario on its face. But, as others have pointed out, there's a lot about the story that doesn't make sense, and it's very true people that very angry people sometimes do very unwise things.

For now, I still believe him and I am glad that the police are taking it seriously and looking deeply into it. But, my belief is starting to waver.

no, they should be taken seriously (and their activities monitored) but not as seriously as the daily black-on-black shootings that occur in the US. My White Privilege doesn't keep me unaware of these daily shootings even though I'm not affected by them. Sorry but bullets have been scientifically proven to be pound-for-pound more deadly than paper. Your mileage may vary.

Whenever people try to switch the topic from things like white hate groups and police brutality to black on black crime and how no one cares about it I just roll my eyes. You see, what they are really admitting is that they themselves don't give a shit about black on black crime. There are a ton of resources and organizations devoted to decreasing violence in black neighborhoods. You don't give a shit because you're not black and you don't live in a black neighborhood... and in all honesty, there's nothing wrong with that... just don't sit there and try to bring up that topic as if I don't care and I don't contribute to solutions in high crime areas in my old community. As for "white privilege" statistically in 2019 a white man has a greater chance of catching a bullet from a black man than a black man has of catching a bullet from a white man. Check out the crime rates and percentages. While most gun violence is black-on-black some is black-on-white but much more rare is white-on-black. And yes this includes black suspects getting shot by cops - but as you know a black man stands a much greater chance of getting shot by another black civilian man than a cop. Facts are a bitch, I know.

BTW one of the biggest factors in reducing black-on-black gun violence is having a responsible loving father in the home, which pretty much applies to everyone across the entire US. Studies on prison inmates back me up on this.

Most likely it will shake out to be zero conclusive proof that the incident occurred, but no way to prove that it did not occur either.
Nobody is going to give Jussie a polygraph or otherwise waste too much time nor resources on this case because Jussie never kept any bleach saturated clothes as evidence, and there aren't any solid eye-witnesses or video evidence.

If the end result is inconclusive some on the right may use this as a typical "boy who cried wolf" moment and some on the left will use this as an example of how dangerous it is to be black/gay in Trump's America.

I guess I'm afraid that this is the same fight my parents and grandparents fought in the civil rights era... and here we are in 2019 and it seems to be coming back in the younger generation. I always assumed that as the older generation died off, the younger, more enlightened would outnumber them. Now I'm not so sure.

That's the thing....it seems to be coming back because dumb dead-end violent white trash losers tend to marry other dumb dead-end violent white trash losers and end up having....wait for it.... dumb dead-end violent white trash losers. It's genetic, it's generational. These new losers are the new versions of those people your grandparents fought, but with less dedication/enthusiasm/motivation/etc. than they might have had back then. And they are super-easy to infiltrate apparently, because I have seen a few documentaries & news shows about that.

Most of these losers have ZERO impulse control and will end up dead or in prison for the non-political crimes they commit long before they will ever get around to doing any actual KKK style terrorizing. Meth & opioids are doing a great job of suppressing & disrupting the hate groups!
