I decided to to cover @oldfella1962 's thread and create a thread for all covers. This thread is dedicated to any and all cover songs you want to share. I live for looking for cover songs. I'll start.
I hate to lead off with a "holy shit awesome" cover but I can't help it. I'll be in my bunk with "I want you back." Then comes an out of left field, but touching cover of "Crazy Train". STICK AROUND FOR THE SOLO! I finish with a touch of surrealism on the Led Zep classic "Black Dog". Enjoy cover lovers!
Ready for your mind to be blown? How about a cover version of the Springsteen song "Cover Me?" Hey Bruce......you put out a song title like that, you pretty much had to see this coming. Just sayin' Nice guitar solo in this version. Wait, two solos!
True - I never thought of it that way! I don't care for much classical music, but you have to admire their dedication. Like jazz in the idea that they are very talented but aren't in it for the money. And what really sucks for classical musicians is they have to split their band's take among a gazillion members. There are like dozens of people on the stage at the same time! At least jazz only has a handful at most. Anyway, back to the thread topic - here's a cover of Gin and Juice. Enjoy!
Teach Your Children Kathy Mattea and Suzy Bogguss at the Ryman Auditorium, 1994. Written by Graham Nash
One of my favorite bands covering one of my favorite songs. Nutrition by the Dead Milkmen. Original for comparison:
Whoever started this thread has opened Pandora's box. So behold...........the sexiest cover of an already sexy song that is totally NAILED by Taylor Dane! Ironically, her ultra-sexy song Tell It To My Heart has NEVER been covered properly. That said, enjoy:
The piano guys would do better if they'd realize that "bigger venue" didn't mean "bigger view". Who can hike out in the middle of no place to see them perform? Yeah, the top of a cliff is pretty damn inconvenient for the audience. Perhaps a better cover is two hot blonde twins playing a harp cover of Queensrÿche's "Silent Lucidity" at Abraham Lincoln's birthplace. Or perhaps not. Still, it's nice to know there are hot blonde twins who play harp duets of metal songs. And of course, who can pass up the theme from Shaft played by the Ukelele Orchestra of Great Britain? Just writing that sentence gave me chills.
How about a cover in Sanskrit. How often do you hear one of those? The same ancient folk song is also apparently found in Sweden, on the other end of the Indo-European expansion.
You Never Can Tell Emmylou Harris and the Hot Band in the BBC Theater for late night television - 1977. Written by Chuck Berry
I Call Your Name The Mamas and The Papas at the Monterey Pop Festival, June 18, 1967. Written by John Lennon
Walk Like An Egyptian, as covered by Alvin & The Chipmunks (and then slowed down 1/2 speed). The same person did this to a bunch of their songs at the above link, and it's fucking trippy as hell. Best part is 2:50 through 4:03.
When Will I Be Loved? Martina McBride, with Little Big Town, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, for "Girls Night Out", April, 22, 2011. Written by Phil Everly
Speaking of ska covers - here is some right from the horses mouth first-wave ska and then The Clash doing a first-rate cover. Then again, everything The Clash did was first rate - and like every truly great band, none of their best music made it to the radio (at least here in the US).
