There's more to it than that: Regina Ann Santos-Aviles, the congressional staffer who died in September after setting herself on fire in her backyard, told first responders she did it because she had discovered her estranged husband was romantically involved with her best friend, newly disclosed records show. She told responding police officers that "she discovered her husband was cheating on her with her best friend, and as a result, she poured gasoline on herself and set herself on fire," according to an incident report by one of the first officers on the scene. Santos-Aviles was transported by helicopter to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, where she died the next morning. In the hours before her suicide, Santos-Aviles went to an Applebee's restaurant in Uvalde with friends and then accompanied them to their house, stopping on the way to buy a bottle of tequila, according to interviews conducted by police investigators. One of the friends whose house she was visiting said Santos-Aviles "was pretty sad about the situation and was saying she wanted her family back," the records show. She arranged to be dropped off at her own house around 8:15 p.m. Before lighting herself on fire, Santos-Aviles texted a friend of her husband's to tell him what she was about to do, the records show. The text referred to her husband, Adrian Aviles, by his nickname and said: "Tell Baller I'm setting myself on fire right now, so have fun raising our son." Santos-Aviles followed up by sending the friend a five-second video "showing Regina pouring gasoline on herself," the records state. The friend forwarded the text and the video to Aviles, who was in San Antonio watching a mixed martial arts event. Aviles told a police detective who interviewed him on Sept. 14, the day his wife died, that Santos-Aviles "had previously made self-harm threats" and had been taking antidepressants, drinking alcohol and sometimes mixing the two. Aviles cited an incident in August when Santos-Aviles "contacted him while pointing a firearm at her own head." Their son could be heard screaming in the background, and police were dispatched to the home, the records say. A police report on that incident said the responding officer found no indication Santos-Aviles intended to harm herself, and that the only gun in the house was a BB gun. The man to whom Santos-Aviles sent the text message and the video shortly before setting herself on fire is identified in the records as Alfred Garza. He told police he had known her for years and that she had "a history of making threats toward herself but did not follow through with any of those threats so they did not believe she would harm herself." Garza also told police Santos-Aviles "had possibly been to a mental health hospital in her teenage years." A man identified as Joshua Garza, who said he had known Santos-Aviles for more than 20 years, said "there were signs of her mental instability through the years," according to a detective's report. None of that excuses Gonzales's behavior, though. H.Res. 724 forbids relationships between representatives and the people they directly supervise, even if it's consensual. Amazingly, as scummy as Gonzales is his main primary opponent is a fucking YouTuber loon. The race will likely end up in a runoff like last time (where Gonzales barely won), the loon will probably win, and then become my representative come November.

The video lost me when it basically lumped everyone in the same boat within the first 30 seconds. Not a defence of any of those people's behaviours, but there are huge differences between what Bill Cosby did to what Louis CK did to what Mel Gibson did. Don't get me wrong. They're all shitbags. But we now seem to live in a society where all nuance is lost.
This. There is such a thing as nuance. And the left needs to be just a wary as the right of hyperbole. And, I don't want to dig into this (again) but this guy just pisses me off. Fuck Neil Gaiman, but not his apparently equally culpable wife, who barely gets a mention in that video? Okay. I've gone through this before, and I'll say the same thing I always do regarding Gaiman: If you read that nanny's actual court complaints, they make almost no sense. I mean, it made no sense to file in America anyway (which is why it was dismissed). I think it's telling that his biggest accuser, and the only one willing to go under oath about it, had such a weak tale to stand on. Everyone is free to make up their own mind of course, but sometimes I think we forget that "Believe women" means give them credibility and don't dismiss them out of hand. It doesn't mean "believe whatever is said regardless of any other evidence".
And I have, and this video wasn't the dealbreaker. This isn't a dealbreaker detective video, this is "so you've fan-divorced Neil Gaiman: now what?".
I think she's kind of worse, from what I've read. It sounds like she put the idea in Gaiman's head, she'd egg him on to engage in those activities. Like she got some kind of vicarious thrill from the drama. And I wish more people would focus on her as well, but she doesn't have a dick, so...
