A lot of people were speaking out about Platner. So many of us had questions like "why the Nazi tattoo?" "why the weird sexual threats against women?" and so on, and yet he just kept surviving. Yep. It was going to happen. People who do opposition research are damned good at it, and anyone who becomes visible enough opens themselves up to the demons of their past. In this case, Platner's got a damned closet full of them, but I think because of the relative depravity of Trump and his ilk, there may have been delusions of it being swept aside as practically quaint by comparison. In fact, I've seen some people already say "but Trump is worse!" and I suspect that will work for some people.
