There's always time for delicious pie. That being said, the Violet Room isn't just for "those on the right." How absurd.

I've seen gturner attempt the same tactic a few times, and no one goes along with it.

I'd say Wordforge's owners need to speak up and either support you and this retarded idea publicly or they need to put it down but I'm not even sure anymore who still owns this place.

Ok, I am going to weigh in on this here. What I am about to say comes from a long history of message board activity and observing how people work. I am not offering this up as bragging but rather experience with this issue.

I get and appreciate what the mods are trying to do. Free speech is free because no one would ever pay for that much noise. The more open you are the more annoying things there will be. If you do not want to read the explanation I will state my conclusion here and people can skip the rest of this.

The violet room is going to fail because it is a form of control and the majority of the users around here do not want the red room controlled. You are trying to make thing better, but the effort is restrictive in a way that undermines the freedom of the red room. Now that that is said people who want to can skip the rest of this.

There are complaints about spam that I get. The teh baba call out threads and the prolific Dayton bashing are a bit annoying. Baba is a spam troll. He tosses out topics for laughs and they get just enough attention to get bumped. The volume starts to drown out the other threads and makes it hard to filter out. It seems that many people are fond of his style or just pity him enough that they do not want him kicked out. Feel glad there is only one of him because that style is what we used to kill groups on alt.* on Usenet. It birthed the first rule of trolling. Some dipshit will always respond. That means baba will always get bumped, and the spam will be a problem.

Call out threads are popular. I do not consider baba's threads to really be call out threads because he does not engage enough. However people around here like call out threads to some extent. Having the freedom to do that means someone is going to take the lead in call outs. Dayton loves the abuse, and I am pretty sure he acts the way he does for the attention and he knows it. Again, this is just one of the byproducts of allowing call out threads. I have seen some boards successfully make a room like the violet room to have these threads in, but it seems that takes a certain sort of positive reinforcement of the room creating the room as a trash bin to toss call out threads into, which is how your methods are perceived, is not going to encourage people to use it. I am not sure how you get people to take it to a different room, but your method is failing.

I am at a loss for many recommendations because this 's a problem I have seen in boards that allow for a flaming area. I do have a couple that may help.

If you are going to have a violet room it should be a subgroup of the red room. That puts it in the red room, but also gives it it's own place. If you do it right, and I have seen it done right, people will use it for its purpose. However you have to get the people to use it, and to encourage others to use it out of respect.

Perhaps the shit on the floor of this place has meaning to many of the people left so shoveling it off into other places is going to hurt them. Sometimes you have to wade through the shit. If people want moderation of this type they would be using the other forums more. There are places with more moderation out there and people are here so I recommend leaving the shit institutions because they matter to the people who made them. For example look at how many people were pissed at me for calling myself the master troll. They had their ideas of what that title meant. They like this place because it is where their ideas are more relevant than the world. They have an effect here.

It may be shit on the walls, but it is their shit on the walls, and I have gotten the message that is important to the people here, and that message has come from the mods also. Now you want to start messing up the designs people have around here when you have said that design is important and you are going to get backlash because you are not respecting what you said you would.

Totally agree... you don't put a toilet on the front lawn.

Without having read the last ten pages, it does seem like this Violet Room is pointless, and will open up the Red Room for moderator abuses by selectively moving threads.
