‘Tron: Ares’ Uses Elements From a Decade-Old Script This also answers why Sam and Quorra aren't in the movie
This movie is dumb. It makes absolutely no sense for light cycles to work in the real world. It's a stupid premise. I can't get over it. This movie was written by idiots for idiots.
UNLESS!! Our world is in fact The Matrix, and leaving The Grid is just bumping up a level! *Head explosion pantomime*
Caught it last night. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would and would probably check out a sequel.
Got caught up in things and realized tonight that I should probably see about watching it, since I saw the two previous films in the theater and discovered that it won't be in my local theater next weekend, so I'm not gonna see it.
https://deadline.com/2025/10/tron-ares-bombs-box-office-1236591880/ For the usual suspects who care about profitability of films...
Sadly, not surprising. The original Tron was largely a box office dud and the sequel didn't fare much better. Only a small group of nerds (me included) liked the original film anyway. And I really only like the film for its originality in terms of special effects. It's otherwise an objectively fairly shitty film.
OG Tron and Tron: Legacy both made more money than their respective production budgets, and were almost profitable even by the 2.5x production budget metric that people throw around, according to Boxofficemojo: https://www.boxofficemojo.com/title/tt0084827/?ref_=bo_se_r_2 https://www.boxofficemojo.com/title/tt1104001/?ref_=bo_se_r_3 I would say the original Tron was no more bad than the typical film of its era. But then, it's been a while since I watched it. Maybe my memories are shaped by nostalgia. Maybe it's time that I check out Tron and Tron: Legacy on D+.
Should've gone straight sequel to Legacy with the same cast and directed by Kosinski. Shit, get Daft Punk too It was a great movie that kept getting more popular after it was in theatres
This is a far better site for those types of comparisons than boxofficemojo: https://www.the-numbers.com/movie/Tron-(1982)#tab=summary Agreed. I loved Tron when I first saw it in theatres in the 80's. But in my opinion it doesn't hold up very well on repeat viewings.
