(A) He's pointing his toy at her. Could have been an "Oops! I didn't mean to shoot her!" (B) If you're fighting a "revolution," fer cryin' out loud put your shoes on first.
If you watch the video, both of them are behaving beyond recklessly with their weapons (leaving out the fact that they should've kept their asses inside if they were so scared of the protesters).
How do you assume that a mob of people who break past your gate and stream through your private property are “no threat to you”?
got a cite for that? looks like they're on the sidewalk. Unless it's a gated private community in which case they shouldn't be allowed to protest there.
Were any of the marchers armed? Does the fact that you're cowering inside a "gated community" mean you have a right to police the entire property? Or are you just a pants-wetting baby?
I'm struggling to look at the photo on that advert and see the same lady as in the video, but perhaps it's a question of the lighting or something. Maybe she had a stroke, or a meth problem. Possibly she died at some point and no one told her? That was cruel and petty of me.....but decidedly honest. As for what they're doing wrong, where to start? Apparently they are within the law and their rights here (or so I'm told) as it was a private gated community, which to me just speaks volumes about the problems inherent to those laws. I do actually believe they were afraid, watching his trembling and fumbling as he tries to get the strap over his shoulder for instance, but I don't personally see how that fear was actually warranted by the circumstances. The protesters were acting more like tourists than looters and murderers, which reinforces the impression they are so used to their gilded existence they are horrified by the unwashed masses. For a moment I thought I was looking at the French Quarter at Disney World with people heading down to Disney Springs for lunch, certainly most people wouldn't have felt intimidated or threatened, likely more curious about the unexpected turn of events to be honest. A more reasonable and balanced response might have been to go speak to the protesters who, let's face it, weren't exactly presenting an imminent threat to life and limb. Maybe find out what they wanted and why. Who know, they might even have made some friends and recruited some new clients to branch out into police mal practise work? Seems like a lucrative field to be in at the moment and they are clearly struggling, poor things.
thanks. It appears this is some sort of hybrid neighborhood where the streets are privately maintained. Some sidewalks' access have no gates. The gates the passed through next to the couple's home were for sidewalk access and not directly to their property. The gates were undamaged and apparently unlocked when people started walking through. If I'd been there with Ken and Karen brandishing guns I'd be tempted to do vandalism too. It's not clear if the protesters were trespassing. Here's another entrance to the neighborhood. here's the entrance on the opposite side. It looks like it might be the one the protesters entered through, but the houses don't look like the one with the guns. It does appear posted private property. But it's not like the protesters were walking on their grass or anything. Ken and Karen should have watched from the porch and waved at them while dialing 911 if they felt threatened. Shooting at a crowd of 500+ seems ill-advised, not to mention the PR debacle.
Also from the article: That's a Democratic mayor, BTW. Presumably, the gun-wielding couple lives on the same street (or gated community) as the mayor, though that's not clear. If, as the couple claim, the protestors were chanting threats, one has to wonder why no one else in the area came out waving guns. It seems unlikely that they were the only ones who own firearms, this being America and all.
Not sure how much weight this carries but: You may say it just means he got away with it dozens of times and a crowd is obviously more noticeable.
I guess it just sucks for the people who think they can keep the blacks and the poors out of their community. Seriously, gated communities like that are bullshit. Rich people hiding behind gates to separate themselves from the people they exploit.
See pics above. Sidewalks on the opposite side aren't gated. I'm guessing from the side with gates the surrounding neighborhoods are a bit less upscale.
You'd have thought a guy with a glowing pumpkin head would have drawn at least some attention.... Seriously, though, only in America could a fundamental question about human rights and the violence employed by the state be reduced down to legalistic nitpicking over the precise meaning of a "keep off the grass" sign.
I’m apparently not up to speed on the finer details. I was under the impression the protesters were on THEIR property, not just walking through a gated community.
Or not so gated. Here's the street entrance on the north side. St Louis is a bit strange. Well the whole fuckin USA is a bit strange.
I've only skimmed the video, but it seems the protestors were on the sidewalk. ETA, the gun owners here confirm my belief that Mr. Hysteria was not using gun safety and, IMO, his wife started screaming "There are people out there! MAKE THEM GO AWAY!!!!" and the whole thing wasn't his idea.
Karen was being even more reckless that he was, pointing her pistol at people with her finger on the trigger.
It's almost as though the idea of responsible gun ownership doesn't account for irrational things like panic and adrenaline which tend to be involved when guns are actually used.
Thanks - that clarifies some of the statements I've seen saying the "Private Street" sign only applies to traffic.
