Trump's the monkey version of Project Quantum Leap.

He has made it socially acceptable to be racist, sexist, and homophobic.

He encourages the Zionist and "Christian republic" desires of fundamentalist Protestants.

Without saying so, he communicates that America was "great" back when blacks and women knew their place.

Even though some of his policies are actually socialist, he thoroughly denounces anything that sounds like "communist" or "socialist", bringing back the McCarthyism of the 1950s.

He encourages people to think that Americans (true Americans, that is: WASPs) are superior to everyone else in the world.

To a lot of people, those are good things. Trump is the first president in at least two generations to openly promote such ideas. THAT is what "MAGA" is about. Even previous Republican presidents—even blatant conservatives like Reagan and W. Bush—didn't dare do all that so openly. Trump allows people to relive the 1950s, when all those horrible ideas were common practices.

And that's why they like him so much: they are horrible people, who want to live the horrible attitudes that have been considered shameful ever since the 1960s.

He offers a simplistic fairy tale that is very appealing to a certain type of person. That fairy tale is:

Your problems are somebody else's fault, and that somebody can be easily identified by the ways in which they are different from you.

It doesn't matter if you haven't achieved anything; you are superior simply because of who you are. If your station in life doesn't match that superiority, it's because somebody different from you is holding you down.

If there is something you don't understand, you don't have to feel bad about that, because anything you don't understand is stupid, made-up, and not worth understanding.

You are under attack, and I will defend you.

The missing ingredient in these people's souls is curiosity.
Curiosity leads to self improvement, and that destroys authoritarian ideology.
"Libertarians" make a lot of shrieky noise about being anti-authoritarian, but their anti-intellectualism always does them in.

Scratch a "Libertarian" and you'll find a fascist right under the surface. Natalie Harp reminds me of the women who fell in love with Ted Bundy while he was on Death Row.
