I'm liking The Rookie also, mainly for Fillion (who, as he's gotten older, has really started to resemble my best friend IRL who also happens to work in law enforcement. ). I'd still rather see it on a cable channel, though. It comes across as a bit too Disney-fied (literally, considering the network) for me at times and I'd like to see it a little more raw and with better action sequences. The CGI gunfights are cheesy as hell.
MTV once picked that as the greatest video of all time. This was in the late '80s. Granted, music videos were in their infancy at this time, but holy shit were there much better videos to choose from.
Yes, late 80s. It was their "all time greatest countdown." In the early days of music videos, I could see it being up there, since there were so few videos, but by the late 80s, there were a shit ton of better ones.
oh the LIST was in the late 80's? Good lord I hope the listmaker was committed somewhere with very soft walls
five seasons in, and I guess they've run out of source material? Lots more focus on the ensemble, which has been good. Cast changes and additions have been interesting. I kind of like how they've tried to present idealized policing rather than the clear cut good vs evil, order vs chaos, common to the genre.
"Also, my favorite ended up being Deacon - tremendous character growth and a damn fine actor (would love to see him wearing Starfleet Captain's stripes on the near future)" HELLO!
I'm looking forward to S2 of The Bear. My youngest daughter's fiance is a sous chef and he says this show is the most accurate depiction of the life that he's ever seen. Recalling the half-minute I spent in food service nearly 40 years ago, that tracks. What say you, @Bill Carson?
It's pretty close, especially the scene where they're in the hiring process and the girl is like, "I can't work this day and that day. " You want to just be like, "do you even want to work at all?", but then again, you need warm bodies. This should be interesting. "Waiting" was pretty damn accurate too. So was "Slamin' Salmon." Then you get idiots like this who my old chef called order takers because they just repeat back what the guest asks for and put zero thought into it. They do not know the menu, nor do they care to know the menu, they don't try to up-sell items or pair them with certain wines or talk about specials or try sell desserts, just write down what the guest wants and expect you do just preform miracles. In short, they're fucking retards.
I'm disappointed in myself how long I neglected this thread when new stuff was dropping that I was eager for. At the moment I'm fairly intrigued by "Silo" which is eight episodes in. Some of the things that intrigued me most: Arcane - gorgeous animation and solid story The Man Who Fell to Earth - magnificent lead performance from Ejiafor The Peripheral - Hella impressed. Great cast, intriguing complex story that knows where it's going, as opposed to shows that give you a mystery box but then get lost in it and can't resolve it (looking at you, Manifest) Pantheon - bog standard anime-type animation but very intriguing story with high level voice cast Foundation - not entirely sold yet but the production values are top shelf. The Legend of Vox Machina - I probably won't have mentioned this as something I was looking forward to but I really liked it. I anticipated liking the potential of The Mandalorian and still like it overall but they should have let Grogu exit with Luke and be done with that thread. I didn't expect to like Andor but after it got so much praise I gave it a go and ended up very impressed. I thought Gotham Knights would such and, apart from liking the guy who plays Harvey and having a ton of respect for how they handled the trans character, it was pretty meh. Didn't think I'd like Batwoman, and almost entirely didn't except for Alice. Not sure if that one fell into the five year gap but I think so. Superman and Lois was well done initially but the Allie Alston plot was a mistake. I'm sure I'm forgetting some, particularly with the way they cancel almost everything before it gets going. In fact, while I'm writing that it made me think of two more: Counterpoint - started before I started neglecting this thread but I hadn't heard of it. Intriguing unfinished story with JK Simmons doing what he does. Night Sky - Simmons again, great mystery box... we'll never know what's inside.
I feel like I really should start a whole independent thread for Pantheon S2 dropped on my birthday and the writing is so so good. Again, visually it's pretty but not groundbreaking but the story is well written and well told and deal with complex and significant things.
Alas, the last episode of the season had a very strong "we're not sure there's going to be another season so lets do a lot of time-jumpy wrap-up just in case" The first part is consistent with the nature of the show and fine, the third act is...not BAD but...a BIG leap from where the show was in the story it had been telling.
