Post your unpopular Trek opinions here, I'll start:

Star Trek IV is extremely overrated and its soundtrack ages it horribly.

    I liked the Enterprise finale.

The Section 31 movie while not great was at least entertaining and better than all of SFA.

    Ortegas is a terrible character.

Admiral Leyton may have had a point.

Harry Kim deserved not to be promoted, he justifies it frequently in the show.

Jellico vs Riker - Riker was the dick in this situation.

I like it more now than I did when it came out. Probably because as a 12 year old it was hard to relate to its themes.

Star Trek V is still one of the best Star Trek films ever made, and stays as true to the characters of the original series than any other TOS film.

    Yeah, I said it.

"True to the characters" is the key.

"Insurrection" and "Nemesis" are considered the other really bad ones, and those assrape the TNG characters. Especially "Nemesis".
    Literally with Troi! :garamet:

"Final Frontier" is like a silly episode of TOS.
    It fits right in.
Hell, in some ways it's damned near a remake of "The Way To Eden".

Agreed. I like Nemesis and Insurrection, but they're way down the list of favorite Trek movies, especially Nemesis. The worst I can throw at Insurrection is it's a two part TNG episode, which isn't bad, but Nemesis? Man, they just fucked with everyone in that film.

The only reason we know who the fuck Nichelle Nichols and George Takei are is because Roddenberry wanted a multi-ethnic bridge crew. That's it.

Well, there's also the fact that Nichols was riding Gene's baloney pony, and he tended to cast such women.

She just happened to be the black chick he knew well enough to cast.

Takei would probably have wound up being a towel boy in some Frisco bath house otherwise, and probably would have been happy with that until he died of AIDS in the late 70s/early 80s.

In keeping with Sturgeon's Law, 90% of all of it is crap.

Also, it's not a religion. There's no need to try to indoctrinate your partners or children into that cult.

TOS is as inconsistent as it is anachronistic and needs, nay, deserves to have at least half of its stories retold in the SNW universe.

TOS does not deserve half the praise it receives. The TOS movies were good but inconsistent, but what really saved the franchise was the First Contact movie and A Fistful of Datas.

    1) Star Trek 6 is the best Trek movie. Star Trek 2 may be more popular, but 6 captures everything that makes Trek unique and enduring.

    2) Starfleet Academy has a better first season than TNG. Or Picard, for that matter.

    3) Strange New Worlds adds tremendous texture to the original series, rounding out characters and deepening some of their interactions (Like Pike/Spock and Chapel/Spock).

    4) While Section 31 was bad, it still wasn't as bad as Into Darkness.

    5) There is no truly "bad" TOS movie. 5 might be the worst one, but it is also the one that feels the most like The Original Series.

    6) Let He Who Is Without Sin is a much better episode than people give it credit for. It's a lot of fun, and it adds a nice layer to Worf's character.

    7) Spock's Brain is not nearly as bad as some other TOS episodes. I never fell asleep during it, like I did during The Alternative Factor for instance.

    8) Jake Sisko made most season one episodes of DS9 a lot better than they would have been. His b-plots saved that first season.

    9) TNG had a great cast, and some truly classic episodes, but probably about half of the rest were mostly forgettable. It's remembered on the strength of its cast and those 20% home runs.

    10) Brannon Braga was a much better showrunner and writer than he is given credit for. He was handcuffed by a lot of studio interference on Enterprise, but had some genuinely good ideas. And his individual episodes were usually pretty great. And even the bad ones were pretty entertaining in their own way.

    11) Picard Season 3 was really good, and the send-off TNG deserved, but I'm glad they didn't move forward with the Legacy idea.

    12) Manny Coto was a great showrunner, and season 4 of Enterprise was peak Star Trek.

You should watch The Alternative Factor. The ending is quite profound and a departure from the happy endings we expect on a one hour drama.

The one thing it does add to the canon is it's the one where Kirk saves the whole universe.
Which explains the big ass-cheek-spreading favors he got in Star Trek 1 and 5.

My main complaint is the way that, in service to Shatner's ego, it turns the other characters into bumbling fools.

Scotty gets knocked out by a low-hanging pipe he didn't realize was there after saying "I know this ship like the back of my hand"? Scotty???

That's why I like the fan theory that it's all Kirk's dream, and they never really left the campsite. ;)

Star Trek Nemesis had the tools and elements to be the best TNG Star Trek movie but it was put together and directed in the worst possible way

Also, Picard S 1-2 were actually pretty good. With S2 offering some amazing fan service and easter egging.

Pursuant to that, I want to see WW leading Assignment: Earth

And then Season 2 was bar none the worst single season of Star Trek we've ever had.

I like time travel stories /shrug

And frankly, it gave us all the old callbacks that we couldn't get outside of reuniting the band as happened in S3. Q, sanctuary districts, the A:E tie-in, Borg, punker on a bus!

    Besides, Sol Rodriguez!!!

Guinan was a choice, and while not perfect, the device of 10 Forward (Street) worked.

Honestly, if it had been done with more of the legacy cast, I think it may have been better received.

I have thoughts on that, but I am short on time at the moment.
I'll address why I despise Picard S2, in spite of those good qualities you mentioned, in a little while.

I enjoyed all three seasons of Picard. If anything, having 10 episodes made it harder to have a better season. A lot had to be compressed or rushed with a 10 episode constraint.

I like both V and VI, bar the attempts at humour where serve to undermine Scotty slightly, and Chekov quite a bit.

IV has a joke at Chekov's expense, but VI makes him a poor investigator.
