You said your objection to the U.S. taking them out is based on us not handling the follow-through well. Are you opposed to them being taken out if there's no capability to follow through? Because if you are, then you would want to stop them being taken out. And if you're not, then your objection is not really about the follow-through.
False dichotomy. It is quite possible to want to see them taken out, but not by us, since we have such a dismal track record. Putting the Shah in place in Iran worked out real well for us and the Iranian people, didn't it? (And that wasn't even really a case of "taking out a dictator". It was more a case of "putting a dictator in place, as long as he will help with American interests". It was never about helping the Iranian people.)
You could just ask Crosis to explain his position rather than making potentially incorrect assumptions about them or creating false dilemmas about them. For instance, Crosis could object to the assassination of hostile foreign leaders by the U.S. because then the U.S. is morally and politically responsible for the aftermath, and recent history (perhaps all history) shows that we are not particularly good at the aftermath. If that is his objection, it does not follow that he would want the U.S. to stop other countries from pulling off such an assassination because the U.S. would not have the same Pottery Barn ("you break it, you bought it") responsibility. Crosis could oppose U.S. intervention because the U.S. is not at a state of war with Russia, Iran etc., and so engaging in an act of war would violate both domestic and international laws. Whereas, the Ukrainians are at war with Russia and insurgents in Iran are opposing the Iranian regime, and so there is no problem (or at least, less of one) with those forces taking action such as assassination.
I tbought @Paladin cheerleading this was pathetic, but then Ron deSantis stepped up promising state charges against Maduro, like the tiny-cocked cunt hiding behind the tiny-cocked cunt (who has an army) he is.
Now the assorted creepazoids who have come to dominate the right wing are drooling over the idea that somehow this means they'll get to fuck Venezuelan women. https://www.wonkette.com/p/maga-creeps-think-venezuela-attack
Yes, they're very creepy but I can't help but laud their trade proposal of 100 white liberal women for 1 Venezuelan woman. Great deal
@Steal Your Face awfully quiet. As a student of history can you please educate us on how when a country invades another nation it's not at war with, captures the leader, and then extorts the new government of that nation for resources as a tribute to the personal slush fund of the president that it's a sign you really are the good guys?
Senior status allows a judge to work part-time (or however much they want). That allows them to step aside and make room for a new full-time judge while continuing to help out with the case load. Judge appointments are for life, of course, and I guess they can just keep tottering up to the bench (I'm assuming that he totters, I could be wrong) I guess there's really no mechanism for getting them off the active roster, short of impeachment. What interests me is a detail that I may not fully understand (always a possibility), which is why a full judge is handling a first appearance, which in my experience is usually handled by a magistrate judge. That was the case when I sat literally within arms reach of Carlos Lehder during his first appearance in Tampa federal court after being arrested. Maybe @Raoul the Red Shirt could help me out?
I think the point is that Trump isn't even pretending any allegiance to the rules that the U.S. has CLAIMED to be the avatar of. They take their "noble" stand about Ukraine and Tiawan by citing the "rules-based order" even while their own behavior - or that of their client state Israel - isn't so respectable. What they are doing now is basically overtly telling the rest of the world "all that shit is over, might makes right" and open rejection IS an escalation over just being a faithless avatar of a nominal policy.
i wonder how long it will take for the pedo felon to claim he does not know Venezuela and has never met Venezuela
Like @Raoul the Red Shirt said, false dichotomy. Iranians overthrow their own leader? Have at it. Ukrainians kill the asshole that invaded their country without cause? FAFO, Russia. Either you're being disingenuous, or your understanding of my concern is woefully lacking.
Donald Trump had never told a lie his entire life. How dare you. Sorry, forgot to sign into my UA dual.
Gosh, I am just shocked that Venezuelans are nervous about going back home when the regime is still fully in power and actively cracking down on the populace. @Uncle Albert , I thought we fixed everything and they can go home now? That's what you said, right?
Lengthy interview with the NYTimes. Trump must be losing it. Non paywalled Link https://www.nytimes.com/2026/01/08/....OqC9.SiMp-WIBpQrl&smid=nytcore-android-share
That's got a lot more veracity to it than Trump's stupid ear patch. I wonder which thug belted her in the face.
