The NYPD didn't exactly have the best response to these protests. Pepper-spraying cordoned off protesters, arresting reporters, and goading protesters into the non-pedestrian area of the bridge so that they can arrest them has only created a snowball effect luring more would-be protesters to the cause. If this movement picks up any more steam, though, I'd wager it gets commandeered by corporate interests (ironically) as the Tea Party did.
