I had to go to work three hours early to do in-person evaluation meetings with the overnight editors, which left me about two and a half hours to kill before my normal shift started. So I went and had a rare weekday breakfast. This place doesn't make machacado as good as the restaurant close to my house, but it's still pretty damn good and it was convenient.
I went to a local bowling alley to set up a story to shoot in a couple of months and while I was there I had lunch. I'd eaten there before when I was working on a different story a couple of years ago and knew that they made good burgers, but that club sandwich was perfect. Well-assembled and just the right size. I fucking hate restaurants that stack club sandwiches so high that you have to unhinge your jaw to take a bite. This one was tasty and easy to eat. And cheap. The sandwich, fries, and a drink cost $12 and change. I was reminded about the weird mixed lighting in the place. When shooting video I had to re-white balance the camera often depending on what area I was shooting. I had to do some serious color correcting with the original photo to get the food to look like it did IRL.
The other day my wife mentioned that it had been a while since she'd had a steak, so I got some today. Not bad.
My wife went to an out-of-town wedding without me because I'm on-call for work and because our yard desperately needed mowing. So I stayed home and did that along with a bunch of other yard work and cooked some pork steaks for myself. Pre-seasoned with...something...from the local grocery's meat market. Very good.
Yes it is. I've noticed that on the grocery store I use that there's a lot more beef marked down to clearance than a year ago. Last year I'd see 2-3 packages between all beef, now there's 15-20 packages for more on clearance than it was a year ago at regular price.
Steady rotation of rotisserie chicken, bumble bee tuna and cracker packs, and fruit, with the occasional hunk o’ fudge.
I made some flanken-cut beef ribs for the first time in a long time. Super easy and so good. Mix up an Asian-style marinade, put in the fridge for a couple of hours, then cook.
When I say Thailand is the best place to eat in the world, I'm not kidding. Just spent a few weeks out there and went nuts
I still haven't started shooting the story that I set up a few weeks back (though I will begin working on a different bowling story at a different place tomorrow) but the food is so good and so inexpensive at this bowling center that I've gone there for lunch the last two days.
Club sandwiches and Reuben sandwiches are basically tied as my favorites, with the caveat that I can't stand restaurants that prepare the former stacked so high that you have to unhinge your jaw to take a bite.
I usually take out the toothpick and eat the bottom half like a sandwich, then eat the top half like a pizza. But I have a small mouth, so no matter the restaurant, its coming apart.
I always take out the toothpick because the first time I ever had a club sandwich 40-ish years ago I took a bite and the toothpick stuck in the roof of my mouth.
We bought some blueberry fritters at Publix that were...not good. So today my wife chopped up some apples, added some cinnamon and raisins, and turned them into bread pudding. Holy hell was it good. She also made me a Boston creme pie for my birthday. From scratch. This, my friends, is why I have the body I have.
Stopped for a beer, the beer was excellent. But the Sprite was even better. It's been at least two years since I had a Sprite. The cucumbers and tomatoes are fresh from the garden.
To me, a Dagwood sandwich is like a pizza so laden with toppings that it just becomes a soggy pile of goo. I LIKE bread, and when I eat a sandwich, I want to taste it. Besides, good food should be a balance of tastes.
Holy crap. I can barely walk right now. My parents took my wife and I to a Carabbas tasting event, and...whoo! Guess who drank all the bourbon drinks when my wife and dad didn't like them? This guy!!!! Ever mixed bourbon with red wine? It's good.... This is the only Pic I was sober enough to remember to take. Bomb pop Prosecco, yummy. With mozzarella, pistachio and arugula salad. Good stuff. Really good stuff. Wow.
I had no idea they had so many locations until I just looked it up. There's one about a mile from my house that we've gone to a handful of times.
I was at Kroger and I thought it'd be cheap and easy just to grab a frozen pizza for me and dad tonight, so I stopped over in the pizza section and they had these Kroger extra thin crust pizzas with double toppings. Well, being a pepperoni fan I grabbed the double pepperoni (dad likes pepperoni pizza but it has to have lots of pepperonis on top). Brought it home, tossed it in the oven for 20 minutes. I have to say, for a $5 pizza it was delicious. There were at least 50 pepperonis on this thin crust pizza, along with extra cheese, too, and with the added grated Parmesan cheese we had, it tasted like a Cassanos (regional pizza chain) pepperoni pizza but about $15 cheaper. If we make some money at the market this weekend, I'm going to go back and grab a few different flavors.
