This is so we can discuss anything that might come up in this thread:

    http://www.wordforge.net/showthread.php?t=62969

    Amongst ourselves.

I'd like to start with this:

I more and more believe this is necessary...no one wants a board so contolled people can't express themselves....however, we have cycles where it is so prevalent that is becomes a liability to the board. When no one can have a proper discussion, every thread is littered in drama and every title has usernames in it, it is just not going ot be a board to attract or hold the interest of new people.

It also has the lovely effect, that worked so well with the TBBS discussions in the beginning of people who don't want to see it can just not go to that forum or sub-forum.

    Also good ideas, IMO.

    Elwood...

    I thought it was great...you?

So the rest of you can give your two cents:

It's meant for people to use in signatures on other boards and in e-mails.

    I like the banner.

We sort of tried the "calling out" forum once . . . the arena, I think it was called. Didn't work. Shit will spill over. And besides, a forum exclusively for the tards to fling poo at each other? We already have that - it's called Troll Kingdom. Leave the Red Room as is.

Rolling Gold and Iron back into Green will make Green look busier, yes, but we'd be back to the complaint that threads are getting pushed off the first page too quickly and good discussions are withering on the vine.

I personally don't think we have too many fora. I think the balance is just about right the way it is.

    I disagree.

Sometimes the drama needs to be tucked away and I don't want to point our customers somewhere else, somewhere that if our posters found palatable to begin with they would be there instead of here in the first place.

The Arena was for structured debate and was heavily moderated, it was nothing like what's being proposed here.

I don't want to change the Red Room in any significant way, simply have a place for the DramaLLama because of the tendency for it to get out of hand lately. If we had, say a Playground forum, all the Kirk-Garamet shit could have been shunted over instead of dominating everything and boring people into not hanging around.

At averaging 3-5 threads a month, I am thinking there is not enough demand for an Iron Room that is not adequately fulfilled by the Green Room or the Gold Room.

I'm not against rolling The Gold and Iron Rooms back into the Green Room. The Iron Room's front page goes back to November of '07 for Christ's sake. The Gold Room goes back to February of this year.

    That's dead. Really dead.

There is also the question of how many threads have been created by having extra rooms.

For example, while Press Start could be rolled into Media Central based purely on traffic, it is worth considering that a lot of the Press Start threads would likely not have been created if there was not a dedicated room for them.

I personally like the idea of two Red Rooms (obviously with a different title) One being what the Red Room is currently supposed to be, and the other being like Scorponok suggests, an expansion of the Gray Room to soak up all the other assorted crap people post in the Red Room but doesn't really belong there.

edit: No time to read all ten pages of that thread right now, so apologies if I'm repeating what someone else has posted.

Determine the intent of thread? Good grief. Aside from the thread starter I don't know anyone who is qualified.

Nevermind that the Gray Room is for other websites, how would moving a RR thread to the Gray Room not be moving a thread?

We should leave the Red Room alone.

Consolidating the Gold Room and Iron Room into the Green Room is a good idea.

The banner is great aside from the caption. There are some rules on Wordforge. How about reworking the caption and making it the new site banner on the WF anniversary?

I suggest a poll...if there is enough support, let's try a seperate Dramaforge..the worst that will happen is it is a dismal failure and we get rid of it...best case is we have a stage for the drama that people who don't care about it can avoid and that won't immediately make new people think there is nothing else going on here, while giving folks an outlet.

That's the nice thing about a BBS, it isn't that hard to try stuff and change your mind if it doesn't work.

I just have a nasty feeling that The Usual Suspects would ignore the existence of a Dramaforge, start/continue everything in Red, then bitch like mad and start more drama when things get moved. And there'd be times when virtually every thread getting started in Red would get moved.

It's a sad fact that the nature of this place means we have a few posters whose spiritual home is really TK, and who desperately want this place to be TKII. The more we try to rein them in, the more of ourselves we lose.
The regular shitstorms are something we have to weather for the sake of having free and frank discussions the rest of the time.

And I like the banner, but we might need to lose the word 'uncensored', we don't forbid much discussion, but, for instance, we don't really want to attract any Nambla types, do we?

I think that the Gray Room is a good example of how seperate but equal has worked in the past here on the board.

That sort of discussion was cluttering up the Red Room so it was moved into its own room while keeping the Red Room rules, worked fine.

I think the idea of splitting the Red Room however will only work if all the general stuff that doesn't really belong in the Red Room is allowed in there as well. Just making it dramaforge will lead to failure, making it a general dumping ground for Red Room overflow however will lead to more on topic discussions in the Red Room.

Yeah, guys. I'm really reluctant to change The Red Room. It's a huge part of our identity. This stuff just comes and goes. It happens every summer when people have more time on their hands. In a month, nobody will care unless their is a repeat offense.

It won't change the Red Room essentially...it will help it be a functional Red Room.

I will point out the description of the RR does not say a free-for-all. The discussions of actual topics get buried...more and more often now.

This solution is the best one for maintaining freedom to say what you want and the opportunity to have a discussion or debate.

I'd agree with getting rid of either the Iron Room or the Gold Room, but I think Press Start should remain. And I don't much like splitting up the Red Room.

I think we could start off by getting rid of just the Gold Room; there were several exercise advice threads there, which could have otherwise ended up in the Iron Room. When closing the Gold Room though, the announcement should be that advice threads should be started in the forum the question pertains to - computer stuff in Techforge (not that that one's been a problem), exercise in the Iron Room, etc. Maybe move any active threads to the correct rooms to set an example.

I will take my life in my hands and suggest that we think about unbanning GoldenEye and possibly polarslam.

The things polarslam got banned over aren't really an issue anymore, really, and the fact is GE is probably not a threat anymore, if he bothered coming back at all.

Yes to goldeneye, no to polarslam. It doesn't matter that the things that polarslam got banned for are no longer issues, the point remains that he openly flaunted the rules on more occasions than can be counted.

He made some good contributions and aside from being an annoyance was pretty harmless.

I think you should start getting ready for a shitstorm, because when (if?) Garamet comes back I fully expect some posters to kick up a big fuss about how it shouldn't be allowed given the GoldenEye situation.

With all due respect, I think you ought to think about at least GoldenEye a bit more.

Cassandra posts someone's full name and stomps all over the rules and gives a big fuck you to anyone who tried to enforce them and gets almost nothing but GoldenEye who did nothing but be involved with the wrong cunt gets banned forever with no second chances?

Fine, it's your call but it makes you look like a petty dictator who only really cares about his own personal information being released and no one else's.

You and I both know you are not...but it doesn't look good and it's my job to point these things out to you. :(

I'd imagine that if Cass were a psycho bitch (and she really ain't ;)) posting someone's information that isn't already known to a third of the board that the "victim" himself didn't post on a forum that is a guilty little pleasure for a not-negligible part of the board population, and she had a boyfriend that was like Play-Doh in her hands, and he had an account, they'd both be banned forever too.

Sorry, apples and oranges comparison. And as much as you want to bend it by either trivializing the CM/GE incident or overdramatizing the latest debacle, the two just ain't ever going to be similar beyond "Someone said something they shouldn't have."

    Umm.

I am the last person to trivialize the CM/GE thing...I guarentee you I know a lot more about it that you do and the both of them can rot in hell as far as I am concerned. Hell, I am the one who banned them, remember?

I am pointing things out from the opposing view because I feel I have to or I am not doing my job.
