Rather than hijack the Trump is a fascist thread, have this one instead. The hilarity will surely only increase as it draws closer.

So far - apart from giving Trump a peace prize, FIFA have changed their own rules so that Christiano Ronaldo's 2-match suspension is erm, suspended so that he can play in the opening games.

How ridiculous will their corruption get? Which set of visiting fans will be deported by ICE? How delicious will England's exit be?

Also, in the (extraordinarily unlikely) event that Ireland manage to qualify, our games will be at 2am and 3am because of your silly timezone. There will be a lot of fun with the licensing laws those nights.

FIFA and the IOC are neck and neck in the shitty ass corrupt orgs. Since this is the Red Room this is what happens with one country one vote.

USA v Australia is in Seattle and should be a good match. Unfortunately tickets are $1500. The watch parties should be lit.

Iran v Egypt is also here and also should be good but unfortunately my partner is boycotting all Iranian male athletes and teams for not standing up for female athletes and sports fans. Why should they go to a match here when women can’t go to a match there? Which I get but sucks because tickets are much cheaper.

How's that? Don't they have standard pricing? Maybe I'm too used to the EPL.

Ticket prices in the US are bonkers especially for ‘once in a lifetime’ events like this.

48 teams is such an absurd cash grab. The stadiums will be full because it’s the US, but we could see some rather embarrassing results.

NYT: Each half will have a three minute commercial hydration break.

    https://bsky.app/profile/gvbsea.bsky.social/post/3m7iqazxn422j

A truly American WC. :enty: :enty: :enty:

I support hydration breaks for safety purposes when the temps/humidity demand it and even for religious purposes* but fuck every half every match.

*our refs usually find a reason to pause the match at sunset during Ramadan if there are Muslim players on the field. It’s not a rule and I’ve heard both coaches have to agree to it but it just happens.

So the cheapest tickets for the Round of 32 match in Vancouver I can find right now are $994 CAD for nosebleed seats

Want to take my kid who's huge into soccer, so I actually don't think that's' too bad....

Lower bowl you're spending $2500 a ticket minimum

I refuse to have anything to do with the corrupt sport of professional football (soccer) so I will not be watching anything.

FIFA can suck a bag of dicks. They give the IOC a run for their money in terms of graft and corruption.

    God I love this city.

Seattle organizing committee picks Egypt v Iran as the Pride Match (the tournament is happening during Pride Month which is a big deal here).

    Seattle Times: https://archive.ph/hEpd1

Now my partner wants to go so they can wave a pride flag.

Egypt and Iran are both protesting. Iran doesn’t even want to play in Seattle.

    https://www.cnn.com/2025/12/11/sport/soccer-world-cup-pride-match-egypt-iran

We’ll see what FIFA does - so far no comment.

Considering how much they emphasized fans respecting local culture in Qatar last WC it would be extremely hypocritical for them to disallow the celebrations. It’s literally Pride weekend which along with SeaFair is one of the largest parades and celebrations in the city. So of course I expect them to.

I was going to say the same thing - we all got a huge lecture when we brought up the backwards ass belief system Qatar has (along with them using modern day slavery to build their stadiums) to respect their culture and their beliefs. Better cut both ways

More hilarity. The short trip to the final venue will cost $150 and it's illegal to walk to the stadium instead.

There'll also be a half time show requiring 25 minutes rather than the standard 15.

It's illegal to walk to the venue and it'll cost $150 to access it?

That sounds like a good legal challenge if I saw one but I doubt an injunction would come fast enough.

FIFA is refusing to help pay for additional transit to the stadium while taking all parking for themselves.

    This is NJ playing hardball.

Check out the area around MetLife Stadium.

    IMG_6304.png

It has a nine lane highway on one side, an interstate on another, a five lane highway on another and a river/swampland on the other.

It’s not that it is illegal to walk to the game because they want to force you to pay $150 to get there but because it has always been illegal to walk to the Meadowlands complex as there is literally no pedestrian route and it is illegal in NJ to walk along or across limited access highways.

Makes me grateful that when I go to see events at Adelaide Oval I can just walk, or park my push bike here.

this reminds me of a scheme a buddy of mines father came up with you know how when you are fishing you come up with 'fishy' stories. anyway his idea was to build BIG raft and charge people 25.00 to fish in the gulf he would tow the raft about 20 30 miles off shore (best fishing in the Gulf of M most of the time).....then he would charge them 200.00 to tow them back in.

The World Cup starts in 2 days, and the Trump regime have done the following, without a peep in the way of protest from FIFA.
    • Prevented the top African referee from entering the United States, based on his Somali nationality. He now won't be able to officiate the tournament.
    • Conducted a full body search of all players and staff belonging to both the Senegal and Uzbekistan squads.
    • Insisted that Iranian players will need to both fly into and out of the country on the day of each of their matches.

Anyone who supports FIFA or attends any of the events/games should immediately kill themselves. The human gene pool will be vastly improved.

Fun fact: Did you know that FIFA was categorized as an organized crime group by United States courts?

So, pretty fitting that the U.S. President received an award from them.

Canadians need to be asking our three levels of government how much money they've forked out for this shitshow. The estimate for the federal government alone is about $82-million per game, and that's probably a lowball and doesn't take into consideration the provincial and municipal handouts.

I think we're looking at least a $2-billion taxpayer-funded boondoggle that will literally add nothing to the economy.

"Shameful" and "disgusting" come to mind, but I don't think there's an adequate adjective in the English language to describe how truly awful we're all getting fucked.
