And chocolate. Don't forget chocolate. Belgian chocolate isn't up to the level of Swiss chcolate (sorry to break the news to you, Bick, but it had to be said...), but it is better than the half-wax stuff that the Americans pass off as "chocolate".
Them's fighting words, but that would violate Swiss neutrality Still, as far as American chocolate goes, I prefer Ghirardelli.
The whole Balogun affair was a distraction. The team wasn't focused and were obviously overwhelmed by the moment. They would have been better off without Balogun, since that would have given them a rallying cry. Overall, I'm fine with them losing, but it sucked to go out on such a messy, putrid note.
I omitted things that weren't in dispute. Like heads of state. Nero Wolfe has his moments, Marlowe ain't afraid of no pencil and Ellery Queen isn't fooled by his own family coming up with a mystery... but they're no Hercule.
The sight of the Belgian players mocking Trump was one of the best birthday gifts I've ever received. I'm gonna watch "In Bruges" tonight to celebrate.
Have to mention the Egypt goal that was disallowed. One of the greatest runs of the tournament called off because of a VAR intervention over 100 yards back. Again, the referee ate his whistle, so there was no foul called on the field. Of course, you can say it was the right VAR call because the foul initiated the run up to the goal. But on the other hand, the VAR rule is lacking because a team could potentially hold possession for 20+ passes before scoring and some VAR flunky would say there was a foul way back when. I like in American football if a score is being taken off the board you know almost immediately because there are yellow flags on the field, or the opposing team challenges.
I can't think of anything less exciting than Spain vs. Argentina. I mean, not like soccer is a great sport to begin with, but holy shit.
It could be a great final. Argentina won't win if they can't get the ball, as France struggled to. Thomas Tuchel got it wrong for England. You can't expect to absorb that kind of pressure for 30 minutes. And then to try to score with most of your attackers subbed off.
Also, note how Roman Catholic countries dominate the World Cup. Despite soccer being originally an English thing. There's got to be some underlying reason for that.
Should never have left Cole Palmer out of the squad And subbing out Gordon was a terrible idea England did pretty well against Mexico holding on to the lead with only 10 men but sooner or later parking the bus is going to bite you in the ass, especially against a team like Argentina Always the bridesmaid, never the bride! That was probably Kane's last World Cup and their defense will be pretty old next Cup too. Hopefully they've got some good young talent in the pipeline
So if I understand international law and soccer rules correctly they are the Islas Malvinas now right?
England had every chance. 5 mins +3 away from advancing. What a shit show. They always find new ways to crush their fans dreams. It's almost like they knew it was coming.
Just seen the stat. They had 12% possession in the second half. Tuchel thought it a good idea to let Lionel Messi spend half an hour delivering passes into his box and hope that none of them would lead to goals. Totally nuts. He got two assists, and it could easily have been five. Compare to what Spain did when 1-0 up.
this might be true but you will never find me choosing poop over chocolate no matter where it was made.
It was a return to Planet Southgate, Egypt gave a much better showing and were unlucky. If you're facing Messi, even if he's got a zimmer frame, wearing Mr Magoo glasses, has a Swiss cheese brain, and hips made of glass, you still don't want him in your half of the pitch. Hope Ronaldo was watching.
Tuchel getting absolutely skewered in the press today I saw it suggested that if the heat gets too bad for him he can always flee to Argentina as there is precedent for Germans doing that
