The shitty rap station I'm sometimes subjected to at work has been covering this like it's the Pope dying or something but hasn't said one goddamned word about the Derek Chauvin trial. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that DMX would want the station to pay more attention to the murder trial than if a particular rapper's gonna make it or not.

Because the Derek Chauvin trial is a foregone conclusion. Everyone knows he will be convicted - it's not that newsworthy at this point. There will always be cops standing trial - but there is only one DMX!

I'm sure that a lot of people thought that OJ was going to go to jail at the start of the Goldman/Brown murder trial. That's not how it worked out, though, is it?

Well if OJ were convicted would cities erupt in riots? Probably not. But if Chauvin is not convicted I can guarantee you cities will erupt in riots. That's just the reality of the situation. That said when Chauvin is convicted there may still be violence & destruction because his sentence isn't harsh enough, but not to the level there will be if Chauvin walks.

Actually, there were plenty of people willing to riot if OJ had been convicted. Some have argued that the sole reason OJ was able to walk was because of the Rodney King riots.

That was a possibility I guess. But since "the summer of love 2020" was such a success there is no fucking doubt we will have a replay if Chauvin walks. The OJ rioting thing would have been a real threat in LA, but I don't think it would have been widespread. But I do know that I wouldn't want to be in Minneapolis if Chauvin walks! Last summer there was many millions of dollars worth of destruction.

It's really sad how this has played out. Say what you want about DMX, but Earl Simmons is probably one of the most profound poets of our day. He has always been very open about his struggles with addiction and how a person he looked up to, unbeknownst to him, at he age 14 gave him a marijuana joint laced with crack cocaine. He described it as "a monster being born" and he was literally in tears as he asked "Who would do that to a child?" Given his state today, this is terribly sad. Wishing him all the best.

    Shit...

    He died.

    Rest well, brother.

heartbreaking yes, but totally preventable. In other words he shouldn't have been doing drugs in the first place, especially at 14 years old.

Caffiene is a drug, do you think that someone who is 14 shouldn't have a caffeinated drink? What about over-the-counter sleeping pills? Those are drugs. Should people avoid them? Here's the thing about legal drugs, like alcohol, when someone under the age gets them, the odds of them getting something like wood alcohol (which can be fatal to consume) are pretty slim. Because they're almost certain to get it from a reputable source. Might be their parents' liquor cabinet, might be from a store, either way, they're not getting it from some random person who got it from a random person, and any one of them could have adulterated it along the way.

Apparently, the whole reason why folks care about brands of alcohol is due to Prohibition. If you walked into a speakeasy and asked for a "whisky" you could have been given any number of things that might or might not have been safe to drink. But if you asked for Jack Daniels or Bushmills, or some other brand, the odds that you'd have gotten poisoned dropped dramatically. The same is true of other illicit substances. One need only look at Portugal, which decriminalized everything. The numbers of people addicted to various drugs dropped dramatically, not to mention the number of people being poisoned because they got something that had been adulterated, have also dropped.

When you never have the experience to be able to develop a defense to drugs you just don't stand much of a chance. I do not know that a taste a young age is bad. What I do know is that giving a person a taste and then the ability to get however much they want at that age is never giving them a chance to experience the good of a sober life. I guess one of the huge problems is the horrible psychological and societal oppression of people of color. Drugs do take that shit away and replace it with a reliable good feeling temporarily. Why wouldn't you do drugs when you are in a place of unfair negative attention you cannot change?

To go down to @oldfella1962 , your careless remarks contribute to the everyday emotional exhaustion and depression of the general black community like a toxic cloud of black smoke. Your inadvertent bullshit forms a sort of societal sludge that they have to wade through all the time. Doing drugs sort of forms a bubble around them where they feel clean while they are still in the river of shit. Maybe they don't want to go back to being a n word after feeling human. I could see that. I would even remove the maybe from that because they do not want to go back to it.

It pisses me off that just by existing I contribute to the racist sludge that effects POC. That is why I will do everything in my power to undermine it and try to put out appreciation for POC in their contributions and presence in society.

He was definitely a hard hitting rapper.
Him and guys like 2Pac were of a different era.

Rap today is very... different. Won’t say better or worse because music is one of the more subjective forms of art.

Some people like classical, some people like rap, some people like death metal, some people like K-pop or classic rock.

No one is right or wrong. It just comes down to different tastes.

‘How’s It Goin’ Down’ was probably one of my favorite DMX tracks.

At no age is it okay to lace anyone's weed with other drugs. I don't support teens doing weed either, but people don't die or typically form life long addiction from just that. :brood:

agree! But any time you partake in illegal activity you pretty much waive any right to report it to the authorities. At best your credibility is in question.
Yes, weed should be legal for adults, but if it is not in your state then you are participating in illegal activity.
