Okay, Nick/The Defender has offered to come back on staff and do technical stuff again. Like reset the rep scores to 10 in one whack. I kinda would like him back, since O2C is only one guy and if he gets hit by a bus, we're screwed. Thoughts?

Nick is an excellent Tech guy.

He may have changed by now...he's older....but in case he hasn't be prepared for possible drama on occasion.

Frankly, his skills are worth it and it isn't fair to O2C to have the whole thing on his shoulders alone.

The Defender was always solid when it came to technical stuff. That was never the issue, not to say there weren't issues but that wasn't one of them.

    But...

The board has been running smoothly for quite some time now. Hate to jeopardize that just to further mess with rep.

Heh, I thank you for the vote of confidence in my abilities. As for the drama stuff, well, time does wonders for causing people to mellow out, especially in that 18-24 stage, and so does being treated for previously undiagnosed ADHD.

I'll be busy with work the next couple days, but the rep fix should be done no later than the end of this week.

Okay, now that I have this thing called time again (ha! it's 4AM and the only reason I'm up is because of a medium cherry coke 6 hours ago after a week and a half of no caffeine), I'm in the middle of backing up the DB.

PS. I can't remember the last time I saw 5000+ unread posts. Wow.

I still remember when 5,000 unread posts was only 2 days worth. :sigh:

I'm gonna have to wait til Tuesday to do this, I have a couple economics finals tomorrow that I need to study for.

That being said, I had an idea. Faceman brought up a good point earlier (I can't believe I'd ever say that) when he said that one of the positives of neg reps was that it allowed the community to do some self-policing when it came to people like apostle or Tasvir, which got me thinking.

What if, instead of outright removing negrep, we just made it so that people can't drop below a certain threshold. So for example, say everyone got tired of apostle, and decided to drop him down to 0. At that point he couldn't give out rep, but he'd never be so far in the hole that a little good behavior couldn't get him back to where he could. The rep warriors get to keep their little game, the community gets to keep a self-policing tool, etc. etc.

Mutually exclusive with what's already been implemented. Also possibly more difficult to do than what we've already done.

Also, are we resetting everyone, or just people in the red?
