The old show showed the surefire way to bring a leaper home was to simply leap someone new into the leaper, and then the leaper is in the waiting room, and bam, home.
Hell, I dunno why Project Quantum Leap didn't realize this, and just schedule rotating leapers.

The whole thing with some unknown force controlling the leaps could well have made them cautious of trying to exploit loopholes in the system.

NBC's Quantum Leap Reboot is Leaping Into a Full Series

No Scott Bakula = no watch.

He leaped into a nursing home janitor in "It's Always Sunny" and got stuck there.

Hopefully they bring him in at some point. I’ll give it a try, but really Bakula should be a series regular, at least in the first season.
