At 88. https://people.com/tv/regis-philbin-dead/
I guess he won't be seeing how the Bill and Ted saga ends.
I used to love Regis and Kathy Lee. My mom watched it every day. RIP.
"You look like Buddy Hacket after he had a bad clam."
My Regis six degrees of separation comes courtesy of a friend of mine who retired as a KABC photographer a couple of years ago:
In April, 1980, I came to Los Angeles from Louisville for a job interview at KABC-TV. Late in the day, I wanted to understand more about KABC-TV, so I asked to be on the set for the 5pm news to watch from behind the cameras. In those days, the opening shot included everyone on the set who would appear in that hour's broadcast. At 4:59 pm, a guy came running into the studio and shouted "...oh no, I forgot my jacket..." and looked around, saw me in a blue sport coat and said "Hey buddy, let me borrow that jacket..." He yanked it off my back, put it on as he ran toward the set, made his 10 second appearance in the wide shot, then ran over to me and handed me my jacket back.
And that is how I first met Regis Philbin.
Over the years, he was always eager to come back to LA and visit us at KABC-TV.
And every time I told that borrowed jacket story, he always said "...at least I gave it back..."
When Kelly heard the story for the first time, and Regis did his standard comeback, Kelly quipped "I'm surprised..."
A real class act! Always pumped up & enthusiastic and seemed to have a genuine appreciation for everything he did. I don't remember ever hearing anyone say a bad thing about him.
Turns out he was the weakest link, goodbye
He gave his... final answer.
