    As I said on Facebook...

    There.
Every last quark of refuge to "patriotism", for the right is dead.
    Forever.
    Not for this news cycle.
    Forever.
    Keep the receipts.

We know why far-right ethno-nationalists like @Marso love Russia but to me the question is why Trump does. I don’t think he has any kind of ideology just ego, so why does sucking up to Russia (including not caring about them paying for dead US troops) benefit him personally?

The conspiracy theory goes, Putin has this fascist pseudo-intellectual hustler for a guru, and this guru has taken aside all the uber-uber-uber rich, and convinced them that fascism is going to win in the long haul, and they'd better just hurry up, and get on the winning team if they want to survive.

It would certainly fit with the spooky swing to the right all the tech billionaires have taken.

Plus Russia is sitting on that juicy something-trillion oil deposit.
    So, there's that.

To be honest I see Trump through the eyes of a criminal mentality here. He's a high level gang figure but Putin is above him in the pecking order, so he pays tribute in terms of respect, favours and fealty.

Like the idea Trump favors strongmen. Look at his lovefest for people like Kim Jong Un, and Jair Bolsonaro. It's about being perceived as strong, and to do that he tries to associate himself with other leaders who are perceived as strong, as always correct, because woe to anyone who dares contradict those men. Trump wants to be seen as strong and always right. I mean from others (especially his enemies), because clearly he believes it for himself.

Since Trump learned of Russian bounties on the lives of American soldiers, he’s:

    Provided Russia ventilators
    Joint statement with Putin
    Withdrawn from Open Skies
Pushed to invite Russia to G8
    & reduced troops in Europe

a thread by Gen. Mark Hertling:

Report of Russia bounties on US Troops in Afghanistan is shocking but not surprising. There was intel on their arms transfers and support of the Taliban months ago.

Putin wants payback for our actions against their forces in Syria and for us supplying the Muj in the 1980s. 1/
The fact that no action was taken is also shocking, but not surprising with this administration.

The process of sound diplomatic engagements, application of strategy & policy, and use of all elements of national power is broken.

But it's not just with Russia. 2/

And below the noise, we're falling behind in standing for democratic values.

Leadership makes a difference, and while most of America is focused on what is happening with COVID19 and race relation issues, the rest of the world sees more.

Our friends are distressed and confused, and our enemies are attempting to take advantage.
Back to Russia...a unified stand against their actions Ukraine, in E. Europe, in the Baltics and in the UK has not happened. The US often leads in the actions to defend democracy and we are MIA.

No surprise they would act to further confuse and sow division. 11/end

Okay so let’s say, for the sake of argument that Trump really was out of the loop. Why the silence since the story broke? Why no increased sanctions? No fire and fury? What a pathetic groveling Putin-toady Donald Trump is.
