So, the Left's mantra has been "the solution to gun violence isn't more guns."

That's the justification for rejecting calls for armed security at schools.

Thing is, armed security iis a pervasive element of American life.

    Every bank has armed security.

    Movie theaters have armed security.

Every federal and state government office has armed security.

Airports, hospitals, sporting events, concerts...all have armed security.

Yet, for some reason, the idea of armed security at schools sends liberal bedwetters into paroxysms.

The schools that won't support the idea are obviously making a calculated choice about who they fear being sued by the most.

Are they afraid of getting sued by the family of a student who gets accidentally shot by security or an armed teacher?

Or are they afraid of getting sued by the family of a dead student because they were negligent in failing to provide every security measure possible to stop a crazed shooter?

Seems cold that you would be o.k. with armed security protecting your money, but not your children at school. I guess it shows what you value more.

If the armed guard panicked, or is a coward, then yeah he's useless.

Of course, you're pinning your hopes of survival on the ability of just one person to act decisively under extraordinary pressure. Better to increase the odds by having multiple armed guards, or multiple armed teachers and building administration.

Ever wonder why there's never been a mass shooting in the NYC public schools? (Heh. Just remembered who I was talking to. "Wondering" is not in your programming.)

At any given time, we have six to ten armed security guards at a hospital with one hundred beds. We have two SRO’s for seven schools with 3,000 kids.

@Elwood, Forbin's got me on Ignore. Perhaps you can explain to him why hospitals need tight security. Yanno, prescription drugs with a high street value, radioactive isotopes for radiation treatments or more nefarious projects if stolen, the occasional infant snatching, wounded suspects needing to be kept under guard, etc., etc.

Strict statewide gun control, metal detectors and security guards at every entrance. Over 1.1 million students, and only a handful of shots-fired incidents outside of schools (one-on-one disputes between two males) since the 1990s.

funny at the Fort Gordon army hospital they have a shit-ton of beds and only two armed security guards (civilian) at any given time. One reason the Fort Hood doctor had an easy time killing all those fellow soldiers - military posts are gun free zones.

security guards at every school entrance Garamet? That works great when all the students are in one multi-story building not taking up much acreage. Many schools in the south are spread out over many different buildings thus entailing more possible opportunities for a shooter to isolate groups of students and evade law enforcement.
But you knew that. I'm sure. :dayton:

NYC, The Big Apple, the city you're using as your example of "it doesn't happen here."

I was talking about the schools. Just the schools. Pity you were unable to grasp that, but if you choose to expand the argument to the entire city, you'll need to prove your assertion.

Bullshit. :bailey: Aside from the fact you can't escape where the schools are at and thus are a reflection of it, even if we went by your premise, I'm going to guess the schools aren't exactly havens of civil liberties either, you know, given what city they're in and all. :garamet:

    a) I've never seen armed security at cinemas, so that's obviously not a universal thing

    b) didn't they have armed security guards at Sandy Hook? Pretty sure they did, and that didn't turn out too well.

IIRC, Sandy Hook simply had a secured entrance.

What amazes me about that incident is the shooter strolling across the parking lot with the weapon in plain view...

The movie theater I go to stations a cop around the end of the snack bar where the ticket taking guy is. They vacuum the floor when things are slow. I imagine they bust people for sneaking food in once in a while. One time a couple were caught fucking in the back row, and it was the funniest thing in that week's Jail Report.

As Capt X said, IIRC, they only had a secured, locked main entrance - which was a glass door that the crazy simply shattered and walked thru.
