Roy Moore defeats Luther Strange in Alabama Senate runoff
If your last name is Strange the only acceptable first names are Stephen or Hugo. . That is all, carry on.
At least the guy that Trump backed lost.
To the guy who was too crazy even for Trump.
Probably, but since the Democrats are incapable of getting their shit together, keeping the Republicans divided is the best chance to minimize the damage they do.
Yay, Mississippi and floriduh look better again.
Remember the democrat candidate can still win.
Not like anyone in Alabama gives a fuck since they are not playing football.
Well, the Republicans have guaranteed that I vote for whatever fence post the Democrats run in the General Election.
Are there actually democrats who run for office in Alabama?
They usually run inanimate objects. Light bulbs, mail boxes, etc.
this guy is literally part of the Christian Taliban
Well, he is more than a little craxy but on tge upside this should make most Republicans who have had their seats for decades collectively shit themselves. If only dems would start doing them same.
Possibly but more likely is congressional Republicans wanted him to show he was on the same side as them.
Roy Moore is one of the finest men I have ever met.
He doesn't really care much about the law though which is why he has been removed twice.
get a room
You'd think Moore would be barred from running after being fired twice.
Not that it'd be legal to do so, mind.
In your experience - having met him, what qualities make him such a fine man?
Until I read the link in the OP i had never heard of him.
Lol Trump deleted his tweets supporting Strange once it became clear Moore was gonna win. The fucker really doesn't like failure hung around his neck, does he?
I don't follow Alabama politics - what transpired here? What is the significance of these two particular political opponents? Where does Trump come into the picture?
Strange was appointed by the governor to take over Jeff Sessions old seat when he left to join the Trump administration. Some people have alledged some improper quid pro quo occured but so far nothing has been proven. Moore is a complete fuckstick and former state chief justice but he got removed for refusing to obey the SCotUS rulings. He then got reelected after getting removed but again acted like a fuckstick and got removed again (I believe that time he was also disbarred which means he lost his law license and could no longer run to be a judge).
His being a completely incompete fuckstick made him popular with evangelical extremists because Moore would often oppose things like gay marriage claiming the bible trumped the SCotUS rulings. In short, the man is a complete disgrace but he tells nutjobs what they want to hear so the nutjobs love him despite the fact that he is thoroughly incompetent.
Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions was nominated by President Trump, and confirmed as the Attorney General of the United States.
President Trump appointed Luther Strange to fill the senate seat until the next election.
Roy Moore is a former Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court.
He was removed for refusing to obey an order from the Federal Court to remove a monument of Ten Commandments
from the State Capitol.
In Alabama, the Chief Justice is elected by popular vote.
Moore was re-elected Chief Justice. He directed Alabama courts not to enforce Federal Court orders on gay marriage.
Moore resigned as Chief Justice to run for the Senate.
In the Republican primary, he defeated Luther Strange by 58% to 42%.
Roy Moore is an advocate for gun rights, and for what he considers to be Christian values.
Trump was also backing Strange (that Alabama rally was supposed to fundraise and big up Strange, though Trump's NFL twatwaffle got in the way), though Bannon was backing Moore.
That says a lot about you. Thank you for being so open about your racism and homophobia.
Actually the reason he is running for the Senate is because they found a way to keep him from being a judge by suspending him instead of removing him which would have opened his position and allowed him to run for judge again. He is settling for senator.
That's...only about 50% correct. Governor Bentley, now disgraced following his resignation from office, appointed Strange to fill the seat for the remainder of Session's term, which he will do. The President can't nominate Senators. Secondly, Moore did not resign as Chief Justice to run for Senate. He was removed from position, twice. The first time because he refused to obey a court order to remove the Ten Commandments monument from the Supreme Court Building's grounds. The second time because he refused to obey a Federal Court ruling on gay marriage because he claimed, erroneously, that Federal Courts shouldn't trump a State Supreme Court. The Alabama Bar Association finally revoked his license and membership, preventing his third run. So, he's looked for other means of weaseling his way into the public by running a failed campaign for governor and now a successful campaign for the senate.
I've become slow to judge one's motives. But, the preponderance of evidence has lead me to believe that Roy Moore is not an evangelical at all. He's merely a money and power hungry opportunist that knows what his base wants to hear. Sound familiar?
Get rid of that avatar too.
Roy Moore is one of the only people I have ever met who truly follows their principles and sticks to them. He made principled stands on the 10 Commandments Display and on Gay Marriage. Despite immense personal cost, he stuck to his guns.
Interacting with him personally, I have found him to be personable, thoughtful, and inquisitive. He is very intelligent and passionate about his causes. The first time I met him was at my father-in-law’s funeral; the families are close. I’ve met him a few other times.
He is one of the finest men I’ve had the privilege to meet.
Did he let you be the top at all?
Separate names with a comma.
