Early reports have 3 people being shot.
Shit. This sounds really bad.
Live video from a local station.
There are a shit-ton of cops in the area.
Sounds like the shooter is holed up in a house, so hopefully this is defused as quickly as possible
The way I've heard it is six police officers shot though none with life threatening injuries and two who were seriously injured in a car accident on the way to the scene.
the cops were there to serve a warrant (or so a report said earlier) and I also heard drug dealing was involved at some level. Regardless here is the suspect when the cops finally do get a clear shot:
not to be snarky and I'm not singling anybody out but this is why I don't take anyone seriously when they say only special units of cops should need guns. Every traffic stop, every warrant served, every encounter of any kind might end up in a violent gun related situation. I salute any controls/bans that work in other countries but we...are...not...them.
All I have to say about it, except I doff my hat to the brave law enforcement in this stressful, dangerous incident and I hope they don't sustain any crippling injuries.
I agree with the sentiment, but more effort needs expending (than thoughts and prayers) as to WHY this is the norm in the US.
Any gunshot wound has the potential to be serious whether physically or mentally. People only "shake off" gunshot wounds in television and movies.
I remember a local law enforcement officer who was told that his gunshot injury was "only a flesh wound".
He said "to you maybe".
well until we figure out the "why" I sure wouldn't want to be the first cop on my block to not arm themselves.
anyway drug activity and guns....a deadly combination that plays out daily. Color me surprised. Again, stop the demand and the drug dealers take their business elsewhere. It's not rocket science.
Gunfire erupted when a warrant was being served at the location on the 3700 block of North 15th Street around 4:30 p.m., police say. Officers were first called to the scene for narcotics activity, according to Philadelphia Police Capt. Sekou Kinebrew.
small world! All jokes aside about "lead poisoning" as we speak a local cop is having a terrible time from a bullet (not from a bad guy, just a freak accident as the link explains) lodged in his body.
Even a simple "through & through" with a low velocity small caliber round in any pat of the body can lead to eventual problems.
If it bleeds it leads.
Except if it happened in someplace politically inconvenient like, say, Chicago.
Why so little coverage of the past weekend there? "Chicago police said a total of 66 people were shot from 6 p.m. on Friday to midnight on Sunday and 12 of those victims have died." abc Horrible website, trust me the quote's authentic.
Or better yet, why allow the MSM to control what you think and when you think it? Buncha friggin sheep (not you specifically Tucker, the whole audience).
[edit: it struck me "lead" is actually "lede," for the purists, or is that just when you bury the lede?]
Seems this is getting attention because it's an ongoing incident involving police.
Well it isn't remotely similar to an attack where a shooter attacks a gathering of unarmed civilians with the intent of maximizing their kill count.
because Chicago gun violence is "played out" for the most part. The gun violence there is steady & constant, and as long as drug gangs are in competition it will never end.
^Did the media tell you to say that? ; )
Tuttle as has been mentioned before we don't have to ration space for threads unless people are spamming. Rather than complaining about people not posting every bit of news you can feel free to do so to bring attention to news you feel is getting overlooked.
Be the change you want to see in the world.
yes this a dynamic tension filled ordeal no doubt about it. Spoiler alert if the criminals end up worm dirt I will not be shedding any tears. Live by the sword and all that - fuck them.
I don't think any of it moves the needle forward.
And the nuance gene is basically recessive. I suspect if news, movies, and video games persistently depicted (instead of John Wick-like shoot 'em ups)- activity seen in Death Race 2000 we'd see an large uptick in mass mowings down by truck/car incidents.
Isn't it too complex to try to connect social life (above list of sensory inputs overload, or deterioration of the family, church, community) with the massive spike in drug addiction and deaths and suicides (including several mass killers)?
Speaking of mass killers, doesn't anyone else find it amusing that the post mortem on the El Paso shooter is written by people who never even read the murderer's manifesto? Or written mainly by those with an axe to grind? Parts of his manifesto complained about "the increasingly anti-immigrant rhetoric of the right." Which imo sounds like the NYT, not Trump. And he was a Greenie, depopulating for the good of planet.
As this El Paso asshole put it, to "(defend) my country from cultural and ethnic replacement brought on by an invasion." So he had an ethnic reason and a territorial reason. Who is constantly bragging about their ethnic group? Who makes territorial claims on America on behalf of their ethnic group? Answer to both: immigrants.
He also had some nasty remarks about immigrants, saying they had "despoiled" his homeland, making it "unsafe and unlivable." No, wait, that was in the Wa Post -a column by Suketu Mehta's earlier this month, titled, "I Am an Uppity Immigrant. Don't Expect Me To Be 'Grateful.'" Mehta, (big surprise, a professor) droned on about the superiority of his ethnic group, claiming dibs on America for his entire extended family. [thanks to Ann Coulter]
But what's the news?: El Paso guy sounded just like Trump.
Yawn. Sheep. So I'll stick with snide comments, thank you.
You want me to start posting my individual shooting threads again? Because I will.
Interesting that you're making an issue of this now, when you were mysteriously absent to voice support of my threads.
no! No more shooting threads unless they are really humorous, kick-ass, or involve unusual circumstances of some type.
The sad thing is that shootings qualify as "usual."
I'm seeing reports on Twitter that all six wounded cops have been released from the hospital.
oh I fucking love this comment from the mayor:
"Mayor Kenney, appearing at the evening news conference with Ross, decried the gunfire. “I’m a little angry about someone having all that weaponry and all that firepower,” he said. But for now, he said, his focus was on ending the standoff peacefully."
I hope the good mayor is upset over the weaponry the bad guys have. If not, no problem bitch! Too much weaponry and firepower? Pack it up and go boys...fuck it then. We're gone, see you later Mayor! Good luck neighbors, your mayor doesn't like how we roll I guess.
Well at least some people like how the cops roll.....
Looks like it's over.
I was just about to post a link about this. Okay I will anyway. He was taken alive (granted he surrendered but he's alive to face justice or at least some version of justice) and I doff my hat to the cops.
80 people saved through a coordinated and professional effort. Will Smith will return to North Philadelphia (born and raised) to shoot B-ball to celebrate your fine work.
"West", not North.
HA! That's right - I hadn't seen the show in a while. I got it mixed up with the Fat Albert cartoons! Fat Albert had "the North Philadelphia Junkyard Band".
