According to friends who work in El Paso or who are from there apparently the shopping center where this happened has a very large customer base of people who live across the border. Sounds like this racist piece of shit drove nine hours because it would be a target-rich environment.
awesome job Glen! Anyway side note - there's a Walmart in a mall? I've never heard of that. Shopping center sure, but not an actual mall.
too bad his "target rich environment" wasn't his own home, and he could have saved himself a nine hour drive and saved El Paso a lot of tragedy!
The town I lived in during the late '90s had a Walmart in a mall. One of those ginormous uber-Walmart's that pretty much had everything you could think of, too.
Wait a minute. Texas + WalMart = zero good guys with a gun??? What the hell Texas? The WalMarts in my county all look like gun shows. Everybody's packing.
Very rarely does anyone open carry in a Walmart (or any store) in my county. That said a pretty fair percentage of the shoppers conceal carry because it's very easy to get a concealed permit in Georgia, especially if you are military - and we have a shitload of military here.
You can open carry in N.C. without a permit. Everybody in my county who chooses to do so hangs out at the WalMart for some reason.
Apparently the guy was 21 years old and 24 years old! Some kind of Shroedinger's cat thing going on with this guy or what?
As @shootER can no doubt attest, no matter how hard the media tries to get something right, when you're dealing with a situation like this, they're going to make mistakes. This is a handy guide for these situations
I get it now. The Walmart is next to a shopping center. I saw cell phone video of people being evacuated and there were escalators in the shot. I was confused and thinking that must be some fancy damned Walmart.
Sucks ass for all those other people that God decided not to help at Wallyworld, doesn't it, Hannah Crockarell?
Yeah. Seriously. Cartels are fucking evil but they aren't stupid. Hitting a Walmart? They know that would just give D.C. the green light to get all drone missile on their asses no matter what Mexico says.
And it doesn't help when sources that should be trusted put out conflicting information. Apparently throughout the afternoon the El Paso mayor's office was saying there were X-number dead...while El Paso PD was saying it was Y-number. The FBI wouldn't confirm that the shooter had been arrested...but El Paso PD said they got him.
"I get it now. The Walmart is next to a shopping center" said the very embarrassed cartel hitmen who should have done a better recon job. File this under "lessons learned" mis amigos!
Yeah, I doubt that they'd even bother doing a quiet hit on someone in the States, unless they were certain that it wouldn't bring the hammer down on them.
I was just shocked she didn't drop her purchased goods in order to hold up her hands-I mean I am pretty sure I would just drop everything and run.
When things are so normal that when you speak of the Walmart shooting you have to specify which one. (albeit to be fair, the two are not similar in any other way)
Also- Here is a story of a man trying to help kids out-who had his legal gun-and could have been shot himself. I am waiting to hear more about this story as it evolves-which that tends to happen. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/man-scooped-children-during-el-paso-mass-shooting-n1039011
I couldn't resist clapping back at that shallow bitch. Stunned she hasn't been ratio'ed into oblivion already
In other words, the "good guy with a gun can stop a bad guy with a gun" trope is basically bullshit in situations like this.
For sure it's bullshit if there isn't a good guy with a gun around. I'm just kind of shocked that the trope wasn't put to the test in a Texas WalMart of all places.
Remember the Dallas shooting that happened when there was a pro-gun march going on? The cops had to use a robot with a bomb to take out the shooter after they cornered him. None of the guys carrying their guns in the march ever fired a shot.
