Hello, techie WFers. My google-fu must be weak, because I haven't been able to find a satisfactory answer to my dilemma and my IT folks can't seem to provide an answer, either. I received a new laptop and monitors for work. I'm running dual monitors, with my video conferencing app on the left and my all my other work stuff on the right. However, every time I use "show desktop" everything shrinks to the task bar on both monitors. I'd like to keep the video conferencing app always open on the left, even if I use the "show desktop" function. I'm using Windows 10. Any ideas on how to do this, short of smashing the monitors with a hammer or pouring gasoline on everything and setting it alight? Thanks.
I ask because I have no issues with Webex, Teams, or Zoom. Google Meet has issues, imho, that go beyond screensharing. The app for VA appointments I have to use on my phone due to VPN issues both for work and the VA.
Check the settings. I haven't had issues with Teams. Although, if I try to view a different window while in Teams, I get a thumbnail view but only shows who's talking, not the screenshare.
Thanks. I have no issues with Teams itself; it's just annoying that it minimizes to the taskbar along with everything else when I hit "show desktop".
I actually do that anyway prior to sharing screens - just in case. I was on a Webex .. probably 6 or 8 years ago. Was presenting, then when I'm done and we're all on there BSing, and I checked my emails. I started to reply to a personal email when my coworker started banging on my cube wall and whispered "you're still sharing!" So, now, I minimize everything and only share content, never screens.
It's doing what you're telling it to. It's a personal problem. try playing with the task view button (add it to the windows toolbar).
Thanks for the suggestion. Thought that might work, but I tried creating multiple desktops and can't seem to view Desktop 1 and Desktop 2 simultaneously on each respective monitor. Oh, well.
The WinKey-D command? Yeah, that's going to minimize everything on all monitors. The good news is if you're in a vid call, you'll still be able to hear the conference as you bring that window back up. I'm not sure if there is a monitor specific minimize all function. I'll ask an IT friend.
