While I don't think Hoult would be a bad choice--he's got big screen, big budget "superhero" experience--I would choose Pattinson.

    It's Pattinson.
    Variety and Deadline confirm it.

    Fiiiiinally!

I think this is going to be a good thing.

Pattinson's a good actor, he looks right to play rich-boy-haunted-by-demons, he's got the right chin, and he's got a big fan following that he could bring to the franchise.

Also--and I think this is pretty significant--Pattinson's been working with Christopher Nolan on a new film, so we can probably assume that he got a thumbs-up from Nolan.

The timing on this could be great. Pattinson is already well-known for Twilight and other roles, and being the lead in a Nolan film could launch him even higher, to the benefit of forthcoming Batman films.

They've got their golden boy for sure.
It's all up to Matt Reeves now.
If it flops, it's on him.

I knew I sensed a disturbance in the force. It was like a billion geeks whining all at once so they either made Batman black or they chose Edward.

He is not the Batman they wanted, but the one they deserve.

Perhaps we have gone to the Batman well a few too many times. Just sayin.

Benicio Del Toro is being looked at for the villain of Suicide Squad 2.

Oh crap. It's Schumacher Syndrome all over again - shoehorning too many characters into the movie. And BEFORE you bring up Avengers, remember that that was the climax of what, 22 films over 11 years? Yeah . . .

I expect only two of those will be primary. One of them we'll get to see Bats take down early. And the last will be incidental to the plot, but not a primary villain.

Caught a rumor about Macauly Culkin as the next next Joker.

The idea that Home Alone is an almost perfect origin with just a few tweaks is hard to let go of.

Batman sneaks into an old Gotham brownstone through a window in the dead of night. He slowly, silently walks up a flight of stairs...

...and a hammer rigged to a tripline swings down and smashes him the face.

Then Batman--in an unmistakably Joe Pesci voice--screams "Goddammit, Joker! You little motherfucker! I'll kill you, you cocksucker!"

I was going a little darker...
Like the family is slaughtered at a remote chalet over Christmas, he kills the robbers in comedic rube goldberg ways. Being stranded for several months, he eats their flesh to survive.

Fun fact - a chianti was not the type of wine specified in the original novel. It would go horribly with a rich meat like liver. But the execs didn't think the casual audience would have heard of the original wine variety from the novel, so they went with that.
