Just finished watching this. Vince Gilligan did not disappoint.

If anything, this was even more intense than the final episode of Breaking Bad.

About the only thing that I can fault, is the flashbacks, the characters involved have aged 6 years and with some of them it's very apparent. But other than that, a very satisfying followup.

    Meh.

Very well done, but unnecessary IMO.

Breaking Bad was pretty much perfect. I'm such a fan of the show that I made the pilgrimage to Albuquerque in 2014 and visited all the filming locations.

El Camino was more like running into an ex-girlfriend, reliving some fond memories, and then having really awkward sex just to see if you could recapture the feeling.

I'm going to watch it again in a few days and see if my opinion changes.

    "Meh."

It was...okay, but only a shadow of what Breaking Bad was.

    A pale shadow.

Honestly, I was expecting a whole lot more than what we got. A typical episode of Better Call Saul is way, way better than this two-hour slog.

While it was good to be back in that world again for a while, it's too long and could've used some editing. Cutting at least ten minutes would've made for a tighter, better story*. Vince Gilligan needed to kill some of his babies. :bergman:

And the aging/fattening of the actors was a real distraction. Jesse Plemons is a goddamned tub compared to how he looked in Breaking Bad. :jayzus:

I mean, fuck. He was fat and soft in the second season of Fargo, which was only a couple of years after Breaking Bad ended. :jayzus:

*When I started to play it and saw that the run time was around two hours I though, "This better be fucking good."

    It wasn't. :bailey:

And you heard it here first: don't be surprised if El Camino results in a Jesse Pinkman-centric AMC series once his commitments to Westworld and Apple's Truth Be Told are done. :chris:

While a bit slow, I really enjoyed it. The tension was nicely built throughout the show, and the final shoot-out with the welder was awesome. It really showed Aaron Paul's acting chops and the cameos from Walter, Mike and Jane were a nice touch. It wasn't up to the best of Breaking Bad's moments, but on it's own it was nice to get some closure on Jesse's story.

I liked it... It seemed like more of a Blu-ray special feature... there if you wanted a deeper dive into the mythos, but not neccessary to your overall enjoyment of the main feature. In that regard, I'd say it was perfect. I watched it the day it came out and right after, I got the news that Robert Forester had died.

I liked it, but it did feel unnecessary. I figured at the end of BB, he just got away and lived his life. Good, but not great.

I just sat and watched what is essentially a two-hour Jesse-centric episode of Breaking Bad, and I only get one "Yeah bitch!" said to a salad bar plate?

And yeah, the whole "Discount Matt Damon got fat" thing was distracting.

Other than that, I enjoyed it.

    Tangent:

Unfortunately, I can't find the Facebook post, but a few years ago a friend of mine posted some pictures with Jesse Plemons because apparently they go to the same gym. I commented "oh cool, you met Discount Matt Damon," and Jesse replied something like "I like to think of Matt Damon as being Premium Jesse Plemons," because, of course my aspiring rockstar friend is going to Facebook Friend people like him.

He was cool about it, but I got the impression that calling him "Discount Matt Damon" to his face wasn't the best idea. If he sees that "Discount Matt Damon got fat" comment... well, if I'm ever found in a cage in the desert, you guys know who did it.

The “Yeah, bitch!” was improvised and not in the script at all.

Yeah, but discount Matt Damon is tapping this.

So in his case, being discount isn't losing him anything at all.

Watched it again on my flight back from Las Vegas this weekend.

Liked it better the second time, but I still stand by my analogy of hooking up with an ex-girlfriend. :bailey:

    Also, this:

Like a lot of their videos, I think Looper stretches their interpretations.

But some of the callbacks are downright cool and I admit I missed them. Loved the Clarence scene.
