    NICHOLS SUFFERS STROKE

In what has been a bad year for fans of the original series, comes word that yet another Star Trek actor has had a health crisis.

Nichelle Nichols, Star Trek‘s Lieutenant Uhura, has suffered a mild stroke.

The word that Nichols, aged 82, suffered the stroke came today on her official Facebook page. “Last night while at her home in L.A., Nichelle Nichols suffered from a mild stroke,” said Zach McGinnis of Galactic Productions, LLC, who represents Nichols. “She is currently undergoing testing to determine how severe the stroke was. Please keep her in your thoughts.”

TrekToday joins Uhura’s many fans to wish the actress a speedy recovery.

TrekToday will update the article when more information becomes available.

If she got to the hospital in time, and was treated appropriately, she should recover with very little residual. Depends on what kind of stroke and how long it was between onset and treatment.

Dude... stop with the extra large fonts.

Damn... I'm guessing the command staff of the Enterprise is going to get smaller. :(

Dude, that's what showed up when I copied it. I guess I should have altered the font in order to avoid offending you.

My money's actually on Takei. He's the same age, but he's always seemed in better shape than Koenig.

It's not inconceivable that Shatner could outlive everybody, though.

As I've said before, Shatner will not die. One day his body will no longer be able to contain the sheer awesome within him and he'll just explode.

This. IIRC, there's a family history of hypertension (all too common among black people :(), but she's a tough lil bird with a great fighting spirit. Fingers crossed, and prayers offered to any deities who are on call this week. :mrsa:

I think George would kill Shatner if he thought the Shat was going to outlive him.

Not to be negative or morbid....but she's 82. Age certainly matters with these types of things.

Nevertheless, I hope she recovers in good time.

That hypertension in black families is more often than not due to poor diet. Thankfully, my mom self corrected this when we were little so it's embedded in us kids. But on my dad's side, where my paternal half-sibs would pour gross amounts of sugar into cereal and their mother cooked super rich foods, nearly everyone said sibs know over the age of forty has diabetes. They see it as Just The Way It Is, and that's just not true. :(

There is a how-you-were-raised component (my mother believed vegetables came from a magic land called Bird's Eye), and I can't vouch for what Ms. Nichols ate growing up (though she grew up in a large extended family, but she was health-conscious as an adult, if a little overzealous with the cayenne), but there's also an unfortunate genetic component.

(I remember a big flap among the EWMs in the RR awhile back when BiDil was first approved to target hypertension specifically among African Americans, who are at higher risk than any other group. Certain idiots found this "discriminatory" because feelings).

Nichelle also lives alone, though she has folks who check in on her, so I'm hoping they caught this in time. :(

Never dug her. Nice legs, but the acting skills of a 6 year old. Should have been replaced by any one of the female yeomans Kirk had over time.

Her main claim to fame is she was the token darkie on Star Trek, and she only got that by riding Uncle Gene's baloney pony.

    Big deal. Next.

She also has a three-octave range and, oh, yeah, this kind of thing:

Mostly it's severity and type as well as state of health as well as age. And if she was in a hospital ED being staged and treated within the timeframe.

82? And Shatner is 81? Holy fuck we're all getting old.

Anyway, that probably won't stop Hollywood from making another ST movie with what remains from the original cast. CGI can do it!
