So, based on the GnR thread it appears that there are quite a few of us with more than a passing interest in music. Thought it might be quite fun to start an ongoing thread of upcoming gigs people are going to and what they thought of them.

All genres welcome, all sizes of bands and venues from those starting out in a back room dive through to stadium headliners.

To start off, i went to see Chvrches at the Glasgow Hydro lastnight. For those that dont know, Chvrches are a Glasgow band who are really making it big across the world now. A bit of synth pop and they do a good job of managing commercial success but staying credible. Really, its driven by the lead singer (lauren mayberrys) vocals and charisma.

So lastnight was a homecoming for them and their biggest gig in the city to date selling out the biggest arena in the country. Total success, they had the place absolutly bouncing. The light and strobe show was quality and Mayberry really knows how to work a crowd. Probably the best gig i've been to for a few years. :techman:

Upcoming, going to see Biffy Clyro in a few months. Tempted to check out Idlewild in the summer but not sure how well theyv aged.

Yeah Mayberry is hot. I really like their new single, leave a trace, and clearest blue off their new album.

I work across the street from a music venue but since having kids haven't seen a concert. Sad. There's lots of stuff that goes through there that I want to see. Joy Formidable was playing in California last week but that was out of the question too.

It's interesting how you use the term "gig".

In the US, that term is slang for "job". Usually musical, but not always ("I picked up a freelance gig this weekend, shooting video of an event").

Here, people buy tickets for "shows" or "concerts".

As for me, I'm going to see a local blues band next month and, a week later, I'm seeing The Blasters for the third year in a row.

Last month I saw Joe Ely again. A good show, but it was a solo acoustic set. I much prefer seeing him all electric with his full band.

Gig can also be slang for a job here, just the way you use it. I don't know, but i expect that we use it for bands because "they picked up a gig" the same way as the rest of us do a job. Could be wrong.

    It is again.

Sorry about that. One of the new owners was fucking around with the settings a couple of months ago and basically moved most thread on the board into the Red Room.

We saw American Aquarium 12/30/16. We brought in 2016 with them, literally as they played NY's 2015, then saw 2016 out with them but at Cain's this time, an institution for music in Tulsa. They are halfway through a small Euro tour.

Bj the lead, is doing a solo gig on 5/23, but alas harvest looks to be early and I won't get to go. :( Other than that we are seeing Jason Isabel at that amphitheater in CO, that is well known and that I'm to lazy to look up the name of right now...but that's not till September.

I have a friend who's really, really into American Aquarium. I've yet to see them even though they play here at least twice a year it seems.

Check out Girls Guns and Glory. I'd never heard of them until a month ago, but they were in town for a show and did an appearance on the college radio station I listen to. I like their stuff. Alt Country from Boston of all places.

I'm off to Bilbao to see them, never been to the San Mames although went to see Rammstein at the Bizkai a few years back... Hopefully the beer at the San Mames is closer to the Bizkai prices, rather than the pissing pricey ones when I was watching the Cure in Madrid.

Three days, hotel and flights, works out only slightly more expensive than going to see them in London overnight, so it was a no brainer.

Got a Metalica ticket for October in Glasgow. £100 to sit down in the third tier of the hydro is shocking. Not like Lars and co need the cash
