Not every disaster or every good thing that happens is an act of God.

How about zero disasters are an act of god? Insurance companies only use the term "act of god" because they aren't allowed to say "shit happens" in their policy.

I believe some things do happen (both good and bad) due to the direct intervention by God.

How is it determined which are and are not? Does he sit there and decide to fuck with people on some and not others?

I believe events are interpreted as such by all societies & cultures to a point. That said there are thousands of societies so can X event have an unlimited number of causes? I think not.

Yes, but white Jebus only cares about Murica, so anything that happens here is god’s will. Whatever happens in the rest of the world has nothing to do with god because he doesn’t give a shit about those assholes.

IIRC it says in the Bible that it rains on the just and the unjust. Not to mention that liberal states still have plenty of what people would call "conservative". And vice versa of course.

I think it was @Shirogayne who posted here once that there were parts of California that were just like Alabama or Georgia.

And think of the saying about Pennsylvania.

"Philadelphia at one end. Pittsburgh at the other. Alabama in between."

One of my college friends was from Columbia, Missouri. He used to say that Missouri was the I-70 corridor with bumps at St. Louis, Columbia and Kansas City, and Missouruh was everything else.

He also liked to say that Kit Bond wasn't his senator, because he was from Missouri and Kit Bond was the senator from Missouruh.

It's the way the country is laid out.

It's prime real estate for massive storms to roll through the middle of the country.

If you're saying that God, in His sovereignty, either causes or allows everything to happen. Well, then we agree.

I do feel bad for your god in one respect: if he draws people like you, he must be a truly shit deity. Should we ever meet, I'll tell him that, too.

If a human being decided that everyone must worship him, visited acts of mass destruction on the world and arbitrarily decided on a code of conduct for his followers enforced by the threat of non stop torture how would we view them?

The people you are talking to would see him as great leadership material.

And I do mean 'him', not 'them'.

as an abused spouse. :( Seriously though - worship/love me and ignore the violent and unfair things I practice and encourage in my holy book or I will torture you for eternity. :diaf:
    1) God allows something terrible? Trust him, he knows what he's doing! Killing 99.9 percent of the planet in one fell swoop was the smart play! Allowing 6,000,000 of your "chosen people"
to be murdered was again a smart play! He probably would have had enough about the 10,000,000 mark but we'll never know until the next time it happens I guess.
    2) God cured my hiccups - what a loving god!
