So what does the OECD say is the amount of annual income you have to be under to be in poverty in the US?

I believe the OECD just maps places where people live on less than $1.25 per person per day in 2011 US dollars without consideration for purchasing power parity. So it is a rough guide.

    Under half the median income.

Median income in 2017 was $60,366 (US Census Bureau), so, under $30,183 is poverty.

Wouldn't that be an annual income for a family of four being at or below $1825.00? That doesn't sound right.

Huh. I had no idea I'd been living in poverty throughout the 90's.

Were you living on less than $15k? Because you'd have to adjust for inflation since the 90s.

It was between 25 and 30k through the 90s according to what I found.

Those numbers are all in 2017 prices. We're not being consistent.

California already has a law on the books to ban the sale of any new gas engine vehicles by 2038, and Germany is banning the sale of combustible engines by 2030. The way car manufacturers are headed, that's not a pipe dream so much as unavoidable reality.

As much as I'll miss hearing the rip-roaring of a Mustang GT from a half mile away, I can live with that reality.

In that case, I was just living in poverty during the first half of the 90s. Of course, I was in college working part time in a grocery store.

Which is of course always the goal of the lefties. People are stupid, can't rule themselves, therefore we, the self-appointed elite, must seize power and make all the decisions. For the good of the people, of course. Never mind that all previous attempts at this approach have ended in tyranny and misery, this time the right people will be in charge and it will be glorious.

Apparently AOC has removed her blog post outlining the Green New Deal from her official HofReps website.

    Apropos of nothing? Who knows.

Link in the OP clarifies that the actual proposal doesn't include the "unwilling" part. Enjoy your manufactured hysteria, though.

If we could keep the discussion on the merits of the proposed policies, without indulging in conservatard hyperbolic fantasy-nightmares, that'd be great.

The "unwilling to work" part came from AOC's blog post explaining the proposal (which has now been taken down).

I mean, when the actual author and progenitor of a plan describes the plan, you sort of have to assume that they know what they are talking about.

Yeah, the "unwilling to work" thing was pretty stupid.

That said, there's probably fewer of those people than there are people who choose to get late term abortion on a whim

AOC's act will wear thin real fast. The only things she's got going for her are being female and ethnic, and once those no longer afford her the political protection they do now, she'll be forced to up the ante and go even further into moonbat territory to stay edgy and fresh.

Clearly the War On Poverty didn't catch up to help combat your plight, or you surely would've become aware (most beneficiaries of the fedgov's W.O.P. experienced more adverse circumstances (i.e. were harmed) disproportionately greater than those it missed or left alone).

He may well have. It paints the Democrats into a corner: either disavow socialism and alienate a vocal, active segment in their own party, or let Trump paint the whole party as socialist.

You know what I get tired of? Dumbfucks claiming that America is already a socialist nation.

    No, we're not.

Venezuela is, and it's a shithole. Funny, I haven't seen Sean Penn down there celebrating Chavez's achievements for quite some time......
