Mike heading for an encounter with the FL panhandle as a cat 3 storm expected to make landfall around noon Wednesday 10Oct. Then he's got his eyes on OF's butt (yay). Carolinas are set to be pissed.

I don't know how I'm supposed to react to sharing a name with a storm.
"Oboy, I hope it kills lots of people! :polarslam2:"?

I might catch some wind or maybe the odd tornado here & there, but most of the energy will be spent by the time it reaches the Augusta area.
Glad I'm not living at Fort Rucker Alabama anymore - panhandle hurricanes spawn a lot of tornados in that area.

If we're lucky the name will be retired and we won't have to worry about it any more. Of course, they only retire names when a storm kills someone . . . :(

If it’s anything like you, it will have a heart attack and die trying to climb the flight of stairs out of its mom’s basement before it makes landfall.

I'm already getting a ton of rain, probably a lot more tomorrow. It will probably hit right around the time I'm supposed to drive to work, which wouldn't be a problem for me but people around here forget how to drive when a single drop of moisture falls from the sky.

I just read that a hurricane with winds this strong hasn't hit the panhandle since 1851. The town of Mexico Beach has lost power.
Donald Trump doesn't like (towns named after) brown people! :weep: Hey, nobody has blamed Trump yet - why should the left have all the fun?

That is because the fantasy bubble blames Obama and Hillary. I am pretty sure they took the weather control device with them along with the time machines when twitler took over. We all know the weather control machine dual purposes as a private email server so it is definitally hillary and BENGHAZI!!!!!!!!!!

Trump cannot control his own staff, how the fuck is he going to control the weather? Think about your tinfoil hat conspiracies first.

The reporters, my friend, are blowin' in the wind.

I may have a lot of work to catch up on, and I may be stuck in an 8x10 cubicle all the time, but I'm not standing in 155 MPH winds soaking wet like the poor schlub I just saw on CNN. So there's that.

yes I'm watching CBS news and there's a reporter who is (I suppose) Crazy Glued to the pavement because entire trees are getting tipped over root systems and all!
Here on the home front I am off work tomorrow (the post is closed except for essential personnel) but I have to give up 8 hours of vacation. :brood: People in grocery stores are going APE SHIT
buying up water & bread & milk and other staples because around 3:00 AM the wind will pick up and there will be scattered power outages and trees blocking roads & whatnot. My flashlights
& candles are ready, I took down my outdoor Halloween decorations, so I am ready I guess.

Now the "upside" to this: I might get some free time this weekend to go deer hunting and the temps might be cooler (finally!) so my happy ass will be in the woods for at least a few hours. Deer will be enjoying a buffet of acorns the wind & rain knock out of the trees plus here & there entire oak trees (or at least branches) will be on the ground, which really rings the dinner bell for deer.

okay here is my "boots on the ground" update: daylight is here and no damage that I can see from my house. Wind is not by any means unusually strong for any typical storm. HOWEVER when you combine a lot of rain softening the ground with constant wind the cumulative effect = trees going down = power outages. :( Panama City got HAMMERED according to the news. :( No doubt there is much more damage all across the path of Michael that hasn't been assessed yet. So far there haven't been too many deaths attributed to the storm thanks to early evacuation. 360,000 people (homes?) out of power in Florida alone. Pine trees snapped off like toothpicks all across that area. Pine trees are notoriously weak and an air born portion of a tree is a deadly, damaging projectile!
As the day plays out we will see just what kind of damage is unfolding, but it will take a few days to see the full effect. Obviously the financial & emotional loss will be horrendous. :(

Long term we as a nation really need to think long & hard about future development near our coastlines. Just sayin'

update: my beloved concrete bird bath tipped over - I don't think it broke though. And birds aren't out in this weather so they can wait until it quits raining before I'll go out & put it back up.
Side note my dog hates rain & mud so he won't go out but I know he needs to piss. He can hold it for many hours but I hate to see him have to do that, but ultimately it's his choice!
I'm drinking coffee & exercising waiting for my wife to get up so we can have breakfast and then.....it pains me to say it....I have to do boring projects around the house since she knows I can't go hunting today. :( But hey, I have a roof over my head so there is that. :hail: Actually if my roof gets torn up a bit my insurance will pay for a new one - but there's a fine line between shingles torn off and your roof flying down the street like a kite.

The bird bath on the ground is freaking my dog out. We wondered what was he barking at in that general direction. The wind? The trees all swaying? Turns out it was the bird bath - he knew it wasn't supposed to look like that so he was letting us know something was amiss in the yard.

5,000 people in my county without power! 17,000 without across the river in Aiken South Carolina - nothing new, they get hit harder by every.....single.....storm that comes through the area 100 percent of the time. One of those "micro climate" deals.

Looks like it's gone past my Mom in SC at this point, and is bearing down on my Wife's sister in Raleigh. Should probably check in tonight and see if everyone is still alive. I guess I would have heard by now if my sister's kids in Jacksonville and Ocala got hurt.

The storm went through my area. Nothing at home seems to be damaged, just some small tree limbs in the front yard. The power is out, so I’ll be staying at my uncle’s house until it’s back up. I think the worst of it passed me by. I was getting wind gusts of about 40 mph according to weather vane device I have in the backyard.

    where is "my area"?

Marietta here. People nearby with weather stations measured 5 inches of rain. Not much wind, below 20mph.
