He could have also gone with "Described by multiple contestants as an arrogant fuckwit, he appears to be getting what he deserves."
Don't know how true that characterization is, but I wouldn't wish pancreatic cancer even on an arrogant fuckwit.
Moved>>> and >merged< since GhostEcho’s thread had several responses even though it was posted after Paladin’s.
I didn't say you would, just that if you really wanted to be an ass, that's the title you could have used. (According to a number of former contestants, he is an arrogant fuckwit, but yeah, nobody deserves cancer. Still, depending upon the type of pancreatic cancer he has, he might be able to hang around for quite some time.)
Not necessarily, though it often is. It just means that it's spread to other parts of the body. That can be fatal, or it might not be, and even if it is, the time frame can be extremely variable. The key issue is the form of pancreatic cancer that Trebek has. One form kills you pretty quick, even if it's caught early. Another type, like what Steve Jobs had, can take 10 years to kill you, a third type can be treated successfully, apparently. Depending upon the type, and where it's spread, even if Trebek has one of the fatal versions, he could still hang around for a year or more. There's a lot we don't know, because Trebek doesn't seem to have given many details of which form he has. About 20 years ago, my step-brother's father-in-law was diagnosed with one of the bad forms of pancreatic cancer, and he managed to outlive his doctors' expectations by a couple of years. Treatments have only gotten better since then, and with the kind of cash Trebek has, he can afford anything he wants.
I've known a couple of people who had pancreatic cancer. One was the mother & wife of a pretty well known local family that attended church with us. She died within a matter of months. The other was the man who later became our part time preacher (and one of my favorites). He developed pancreatic cancer in the early 1980s and after treatment went into remission and has apparently been cancer free for nearly 40 years. Although the harsh chemotherapy did damage his heart requiring major surgery about ten years later.
Again, it all depends upon the form of pancreatic cancer one has. And just because someone is diagnosed with one form of it, doesn't necessarily mean that this is correct. For example, new research indicates that diabetes (which has been known about for a very long time) is not just Type 1 or Type 2, but may actually be five different diseases.
My favorite piece of Trebek trivia is that several years ago he found a hardware store that was going out of business and bought out their inventory. His garage is filled with all kinds of hardware and plumbing supplies.
Last year he moderated a governor's debate in Pennsylvania, and definitely spent more time calling out the Republican. He'll be missed.
Don't be an idiot. She and her husband and their three children went to church where we did. Why do you feel compelled to insult a place you've never even been?
Look at the exchange more closely, specifically this bit: @Faceman was playing a pun on your accurate but ambiguous choice of wording. Might be wrong but I don't think it was intended as an insult.
