Yay, in Raleigh for an anime cone and the weather is supposed to be a death ridge. It is hot but the congoers are still alive. Stupid weather people.

Omg! Fursuiters everywhere, perhaps there will be some deaths due to furry otaku body odor poisoning.

I’ll give it to the furries, they are committed.

I am not shocked with the rampant anthropomorphism in anime that the furries have a connection. Fursuiters do have a dedication to their fur. I cannot say I don't understand. I was hot as hell and my feet were bleeding after the first day from cute shoes and wearing tights and a heavier dress in 100+ degree heat. It did not stop me. When you are at a place when you can wear your stuff and be in public with the acceptance and encouragement that anime cons have you go dressed. We are not the only ones. You have people who create giant bulky mech suits. There are always some heavier costumes that are like mascot costumes. You have to watch out for heat. I am pretty sure someone had trouble outside on the second day as an ambulance was on the sidewalk right outside. However I can get that you want to have fun and be that person you feel like.

The other thing I love is you do not need to be the right body size, gender, color, or whatever to cosplay at a con. If you like a character and want to play them you do it. There are very few black or dark brown people in anime, but at a convention there are a ton of black people cosplaying. They look great and they are fun. There was always that group there, but it has just grown and grown. That also includes crossplayers. Most of the guys who crossplay are not trans or drag queens. This is because you have such a influence of honor, caring, heroism, and acceptance in the media that really effects the fandom.

The Jesus converters showed up to preach and no one argued with them. People brought them water because it was hot. People talked to them and took pictures with them. Granted the converters were not the really offensive type. They chose a more positive redemption angle rather than fire and brimstone. Still they were the most lonely people there, and I thanked they really missed what was a lot of community love and goodwill that was already present.

The environment makes people want to be themselves and participate in things as themselves. Outside of a furcon it would probably be one of the more welcoming and caring places.
