The media will always focus on a crisis. One can attempt to challenge their biases or draw their attention using other means, but I doubt that's going to change much.

Of the 62 killed, 50 were Hamas soldiers.

Why can't the two state solution include East Jerusalem being the capital of one state and West Jerusalem being capital of the other?

One wonders why--given the decades of well-known history--one would allow an 8-year-old anywhere near one of these "protests."

Do you really think they belong anywhere near an environment where Hamas soldiers are engaging in provocative behavior against the Israeli Army? 'Cause, I sure don't. If I had an 8-year-old, I'd be a lot more careful with him/her than that.

Maybe the mother couldn't afford child care? Maybe the hope was that seeing children in the crowd, the IDF might remember what little human compassion they possess?

"The Dark Knight Rises", is a PG-13 movie, so if any 8 year olds were at the Aurora shooting, that's on them.

Not at all. The risk of being in a public mass-shooting in the United States is very, very small. No one would expect violence at a movie theater.

But how about where Palestinian "protesters" and Hamas provocateurs are in conflict with the Israeli Army?

So, are you saying you wouldn't expect violence where Palestinian protesters are clashing with the Israeli Army? You'd feel good about taking an 8-year-old to that scene?

    Violence?
    Maybe.
    Slaughter?
    Not as much.

Do kids and teens go to Blacklives matter marches?
Those have a high probability of police violence.
But you'd still be shocked if they got mowed down, wouldn't you?

No, I'd prefer that the Israelis stop treating their fellow citizens the way they were treated in Nazi Germany. The only thing they haven't tried yet is cattle cars, maybe because the country's too small to hide the crematoria. :bergman:

Not playing this game. The question is not even worth considering, it is so absurd.

You seem to have no clue about the Nazis and their crimes. Hint: There would be no Gaza Strip, no West Bank, no Hamas and no Palestinians left alive if the Israelis were as bad as the Nazis. Of course you know this already.

    You're amusing.

There's more public scrutiny than there was in 1933. There's also the embarrassing fact that both entities are of Semitic origin, so the dominant party can't claim ethnic superiority. So they're content with seizing assets, containing the Other in specified regions and occasionally rolling tanks down the street to remind them who's boss, limiting the jobs the Other can apply for (and in some cases simply locating them on the other side of the barrier so it's necessary to pass through a checkpoint, a system that was also employed in Northern Ireland). Bibi's IDF can't resort to wholesale slaughter because the Whole World Is Watching.

The correlation is the belief that people are and should be responsible for themselves (and for those in the care).

You're not a responsible parent if you bring a child to a "protest" where Hamas soldiers are provoking the Israeli Army.

One, the Palestinians in Gaza are not "their fellow citizens." Gaza is Palestinian territory, Israel is not. Two, Israel is controlling its borders, as it has every right to do. Three, Israel is not treating them anything like the Nazis treated the Jews. The Israelis are content to leave the Palestinians alone; it is Palestinian provocation that is precipitating the violence.

Not if the participants comply with the law and demonstrate peacefully. If BLM initiates violence or disorder, then of course I'd expect police violence. I'd actually demand it.

Everyone has a right to demonstrate peacefully. No one has a right to demonstrate violently or to threaten the lives or property of others.
Yes, but the situations aren't analogous. A group of citizens demonstrating peacefully in their own country is not the same as a violent mob threatening the border with another country.

I get that, but Palestinians certainly have a stronger claim of East Jerusalem than West Jerusalem. Why can't a deal for a Palestinian state include East Jerusalem as Palestine's capital?
