Former president Jimmy Carter suffered a broken hip earlier today. He was getting ready to go on a turkey hunting trip.

    Story here.

At that age, broken hips can be bad news.

Jimmy eats pretty healthy and he keeps himself pretty thin - I'm guessing he doesn't patronize too many buffet places. It would be great if the rest of Georgia followed his lead!
Speaking of staying fit & healthy as you age, I just read that men who can do 40 consecutive push ups have a 96 percent less chance of having a heart attack than men who can't even do 10 push ups. I guess 40 push ups is like the 8 minute mile in that regard. Probably just a "rule of thumb" because I haven't seen the hard science on it yet.

Hmmmm, eat a lot and enjoy the life I have or live until the diaper wearing years when trump jr is president?

I think I am going out for a smoke and a dinner of all you can eat bacon.

No offense to those who want to live for long periods of time, but I was pissed with this body from day 1, and this world may have some nice things, but it is filled with assholes. I see no reason to exercise a lot so I can be stuck in an old age home in a few decades with all the faux newstards.

Exercise actually makes you feel better. Give it a shot. You'll be able to eat more bacon too!

but if you exercise a lot and eat better you might be so healthy in mind & body that you won't have to be in an old age home. Then you might break a hip at 94 and shake it off like it's no big deal, much like Jimmy is doing.

My grandfather was proud of his history in sports, always exercising, and military fitness. He can barely remember words now, but he certainly knows the shame of having to use a walker because his legs and balance are giving out despite his attempts to exercise. He had to give up his car which also bothers him despite the reality he gets lost within a mile and takes out the gate in his community because he gets flustered.

Some people may be fine up until his age and beyond, but I would rather ram stuff in while younger and then just die before my body fully stops betraying me.

Don't get me wrong, I am happy to walk, and run, and whatever. I am glad that shit came back after diabetes was taking it away. But I am happy with a limited time in the wrong body. There comes a time for me to move on, and this world is really tiring. I am not putting in huge amounts of effort to get the shit yourself, can't wipe your own ass, watch all the people you know die years. You can have those, but I will take a steak, some smokes, drugs, and lots of chocolate and sugar.

Perhaps to some. Carter may have been in over his head, but he wasn't the walking p.o.s Obama was.

During my lifetime there are four presidents that stand out for remarkably higher or lower character than the avg US presidents we've had, and the two with arguably the best character turned out to be the least effective (Carter Ford) while the two with the clearly worst character have proven to have been very effective (the liar and the vulgarian).

Imo Nixon was about avg. on a 'character' scale, and Reagan was an outlier, you don't often get half-way decent people in politics to begin with never mind one of those who turns out good at his job.

sad your grandfather's mind & body didn't hold up despite his efforts but statistically your quality of life will improve in the near & far term with exercise and a balanced diet. Yes the world is tiring, but it's all we have (that's my personal belief anyway). On the personal level my father-in-law had to quit driving too. He recently had to give up his bicycle because he was getting lost and in the Phoenix summer heat that can be deadly. It's a sad but inevitable process and a crap shoot we all play. But why handicap yourself when you have the ability to last as long as you can? BTW he offered to give his bicycle to one of his grandsons so he has a way to get around and can thus get a job. The lazy weed smoking video game playing oxygen thief (in the prime of his life at age 27!) didn't take the bike. A healthy, strong, mentally capable man passes up an opportunity to work, preferring to be a career couch potato and financial burden on his family.

It is just an individual thing to me. It is mostly my transgender nature. You know when you get that really sad longing feeling deep in your heart for someone or something you cannot have, perhaps someone who has passed? Imagine that always being around since you were aware of things. The more you try to deny it the more it hurts rather than fading like loss or death. The more you see others living life like that you become jealous. Most of the time if you try to express yourself that way you get hammered by society because you are not supposed to do that even though it makes no difference that you do. Even when you have people around who accept and treat you the way you want you will never know the true feelings of a period, or growing a child inside of you. You know that all of that is what you are and should be, and you always feel wrong because your body is not that way.

That is every day for me. There is not a day I don't wake up feeling it. There is not a day I do not see it. I love little girls and want to be them, but I hate them because they do things I cannot do. I look at women and want to have their breasts and hips. I feel wrong because I do not have them. I feel shallow because my only way to get close to that is just to dress up and cosmetically look like them. I can never develop a child in my body and have that connection for 9 months. I can never have a child suckle nutrition from my breasts. I don't bear any of the scars a woman has.

I live with that every day. There is no cure for it. There is no transformation that will make me a woman. So I am going to enjoy what I can and run this body into the fucking ground. I have had some good time, and I will probably have some more. I am not looking to die, but I am not looking to push it away either. I will be glad when it comes for me. I have done many wonderful and awesome things I have loved. I have had great experiences, and met many interesting people including some of the people around here. So if I do go don't be sad, be happy. If you want more time or interaction with me then you just need to ask. If I have not ignored you I probably will give it to you. Hell, even if I have ignored you and you want some meaningful interaction send it through someone I listen to.

The only thing that will make me unhappy when I die will be the hurt feelings of those who love me. That is what I would like to lessen.
