So he's delusional about being married? You think he's hallucinating his wife? I think you have become unable to recognise reality when it stares you in the face, such as the fact that the posters in this thread, as well as Bezos and his wife, exist.

@Dayton3 disagrees. I guess he thinks people should be miserable their whole lives rather than have an amicable divorce and be happy.

Given that subsequent marriages post divorce are even more likely to end in divorce (look up the stats if you doubt me, I'm not bothering) it would appear that "be happy after a divorce thing" generally does not work out.

The problem is that a good marriage will not "make a person happy". Most people are as happy or as miserable as they are determined to be. Outside events having little to do with either.

My wife’s father moved out the day she left for college. Talk about a mind fuck. She was stressed out enough over going off to school, but to not be able to come ‘home’ (they sold the house, both lived in smaller apartments) ended up being too much. In a period where she was going through a lot of change she needed stability and instead of being able to provide that her parents were going through a bad divorce. She ended up dropping out. Such a bad experience that it took 10 years before she went back to school.

If would have been better for everyone if they’d separated years earlier.

It's a shit movie, but there is a funny joke in The Dukes of Hazzard...

Uncle Jesse (played by Willie Nelson): "Why are divorces so expensive?"

    Luke: "Why?"

Uncle Jesse: "'Cause they're worth it!"

I believe you’re correct. I heard it years ago but never could remember the source.

In my observation, people who don't offer themselves a chance to escape from a bad marriage are:
    • Women with dependent children and few job skills
    • Women who have no job history because they've relied on their husbands to support them
    • Women (or men) who are trapped in abusive relationships and are convinced that their spouse will hunt them down and kill them if they even try
    • Anyone who's ascared that Jesus is gonna send them to Hell if they so much as think about it

Why do people think any subsequent marriage will be any better than the "bad marriage" they "escaped" from?

    Statistics indicate quite the opposite.

Why do you assume everyone who gets a divorce is going to jump into another marriage (unless, like Bezos and Der Drumpfenfuhrer, they're already screwing the next candidate)?

I don't see anything in that article that states "people get divorced because they're already screwing the next candidate."

I only linked to it because it had some of the statistics about the divorce rate for second and third marriages.

There we lots of things people should not do for the wrong reasons, or if they are not prepared, but they do them anyway. You should not be forced to live with a mistake for the rest of your life, which is why we have divorce and abortion. We also should not lie to people and tell them all they need to be happy is get married and have kids. We sell that lie everywhere and as we can see from divorce rates, abortions, and unwanted children that is a huge lie.

However, a divorce is not a terrible thing for children if the parents are not fighting. My nephew has two families who love him a lot and those are two full families now. His father and mother have both married new people with their extended families who all care about him. All four of his parents are middle class and well off financially. He is happy, and he loves his parents. He does not even know what having one single family is like because he was a toddler when they divorced. He missed the arguing and problems o the divorce. It does not always work out perfectly amiable but for all the problems my sister and her husband had when married they love and are there for their child. The two of them have moved on to new marriages where things are less argumentative. Maybe another divorce will come, but it is not the end of the world for everyone.

Today the stigma of having divorced parents is gone from places that are not religiously fascist. He is not in a lonely minority where other kids make fun of him because his parents split because their nasty parents tell them he is wrong. You cannot pick on kids with divorced parents in this area anymore without getting at least half the school pissed at you.

His daughter seemed nice. We cannot control who our parents are, and hopefully she will find better influences.
