It's been almost ten months since Joseph R. Biden took office.

Yet the Republican lies continue, and Donald Trump builds steam for his 2024 re-election bid.

I said almost a year ago that the only way to save American democracy would be for the new administration to go after the liars, cheats, crooks and traitors. Go after them hard and prosecute them with extreme prejudice.

But so far, there's only been a limp January 6th commission and very little in the way of prosecutions.

Joe Biden and the Democratic-controlled Congress simply aren't up to the task of saving the country's democracy.

    Discuss.

Say what you will about Trump, he wouldn't have put up with this obstructionist bullshit from Sinema and Manchin with a smile. He'd be blasting them on twitter and putting constant pressure on them with bribes and threats. That might not work with a guy like McCain who's already got one foot in the grave, but I'm sure it'd work on those two assholes. :clyde:

Joe Biden has surrounded himself with a good group of fighters. It’s the Democratic establishment that is a bunch of dinosaurs and not up the task. These fools still think it’s 1986 and they can have a cocktail hour with the opposition. These idiots should have learned their lesson on Obama’s Inauguration Day.

We had a candidate that who's platform was exactly tackling all those things. Unfortunately, for me anyway, all I got was bullshit about how he couldn't win. So, fuck anyone who wants to bitch about Biden now.

How exactly? With hopes and dreams and magic?

If Bernie has some brilliant strategy for convincing Manchin and Sinema to get with the program, why's he keeping it in his back pocket now? Especially considering his more radical proposals would be even more offensive to them than Biden's half-measures. :chris:

That wasn't the question nor the reason for my post. Read both again. If you wish to discuss Bernie's platform and whether or not he proposed those things, I'll discuss. But, just because you didn't like him as a candidate doesn't invalidate my statement.

I don't know anyone that dislikes Bernie as a person and wouldn't get a beer with him, it's his platform and the sincerity/plausibility of that platform that people take issue with.

I remember a few years ago in my city when there was this crazy homophobe running for mayor, there was some talk of letting him win as a prank since he'd still only have one vote at city council meetings and there's no way he could outlaw homosexuality even if he tried. I like a lot of what Bernie proposed, but that's exactly the sort of impotent situation he'd have been in as president. :clyde:

Typical. say stupid shit that has nothing to do with anything, then when found that doesn't generate the discussion you want, you finally say something relevant and then shut down any further discussion.

Think I'll just go with my first thought and say, shut the fuck up.

But seriously, the American system is organized so that no president can hope to pass a bill that's not supported by at least a simple majority in both the House and the Senate, and both houses are full of moderates that are far less likely to compromise than extremists on either side that are usually happy to get at least a little something rather than absolutely nothing. That's the problem with electing a presidential candidate that's making big promises, it's not truly up to them.

I didn't start the thread, but I do honestly think Biden should be trying harder to round up the needed votes considering how much he's watered down most of his proposals to make them palatable to the middle. :clyde:

I agree. But, as he ran as opposition to everything Bernie proposed, I do not expect him to "try harder" to get votes for something he didn't want in the first place.

    Candidate 1: I propose this
Candidate 2: He's full of shit. I won't do that.

People: Why won't Candidate 2 do the things Candidate 1 proposed?!?!@?!

Regarding Sinema I believe her payout is going to be $25-30 million on the low end. So really no motivation for her to enact any substantive legislation. But if she wants to start earning that Joe Manchin money she needs to make herself more available.

I always figured Biden would bow out before the end of his term for Harris to get a bit of a time in the chair. I can't see him running in '24 anyways given his age, so creating an incumbent advantage for her then seems sensible... what're the term limits if a VP gets promoted?

I don't have beef with the guy, but his supporters are the K-Pop stans of politics and most of them I want to yeet into the Shadow Realm. :brood:

If a President steps down two years and one day after election, said VP could run for two terms IIRC.

Any VP who gets the big chair after 50% of the President's term has been served can run for President twice.
