The legendary race car driver who returned to driving in 1976 just 6 weeks after a horrific crash that left him severely burned and permanently disfigured has died at the age of 70. I remember reading a lot about the accident. Especially moving was several other drivers stopping to help pull him from the flaming wreck at the German Grand Prix.

His rivalry with fellow driver James Hunt (a kind of wildman in the racing world who unlike the traditional Lauda was known for snorting cocaine and having sex just before the start of races) was the subject of a movie by Ron Howard.

I don't follow auto racing of any kind, but I saw the Ron Howard film Rush that's about Lauda's rivalry with Hunt and really enjoyed it. Props to Lauda for coming back so quickly after a devastating injury.
