Some fans created a new edit for the lightsaber fight between Obi Wan and Darth Vader. It's pretty awesome.

Pretty cool, but I think I like the slower fights better. That was one thing I really liked about the lightsaber battle in TFA.

It's rough in spots, but the dynamics of the duel are excellent. :techman:

Their fighting styles also match the style in the original. Obi Wan's lunges and paries are the same, but more energetic. The same with Vader's, his stay true to the original, but more energetic as well.

I copied it just the other day. Of course the battle includes a bunch of telekinetic force stuff that we didn't know Jedi or Sith could do when the first movie was made but which we know in hindsight. Vader even throws a fist a couple of times. I love the part where Vader throws his lightsaber so it spears the bulkhead next to Kenobi just missing him and then Vader uses the force to make it slice toward one side.

I wish all kinds of "remastering" when it comes to classic science fiction scenes would be done in this spirit. someone did something similar to the scene from the original Battlestar: Galactica where the Viper squadrons from Galactica and Pegasus jointly intercept some Cylon tankers.

Some of the energy, I think is overdone. On a board I used to frequent there was a poster who was really into sword-fighting as a hobby and he did a post comparing the sabre fights in ANH and RotJ. He pointed out that the fight in ANH was choreographed the way you'd expect a pair of old (since Guinness was in his 60s, and the assumption at the time was that Vader was similar in age) sword masters to fight. A little slow, probably out of practice, with more emphasis on strategy than physical force. By contrast, the RotJ fights are choreographed to show a young fighter, with energy, flexibility, but not necessarily a large amount of actual experience in a fight, going up against someone who was older, more skillful, and who had a lot of experience in a fight.

You can make the case that since Vader was mostly machine he could move better than Kenobi and that Kenobi could use the Force to help compensate for the fact that he's an old man, but I don't think you'd get some of the movements out of him that you saw in that clip. Not to say that the clip is bad, but that I'd consider it more to be like if they did a full CGI enhancement of one of the early blocking sessions to see how the final product would look. Give it some tweaks here and there, change a few camera angles, and I'd say you'd have something that was just about perfect.

    Pretty cool.

It uses the "shaky-cam" technique that's been employed by Hollywood for some time now to ramp up the "action".

See 2:38 in the video for an example.

A nice touch is how the lightsabers, especially Vader's, cause considerable collateral damage around them and that the last offensive move by Obi Wan Kenobi isn't a saber move at all but a force thrust. It gives the impression finally (given Kenobi's move pushes him back but doesn't slam him down or against the wall) that Kenobi can't win particular battle. Also even more so than in the original Vader looks even more larger and imposing over Kenobi.

One thing that was in the original version and seems omitted from here is after a series of parries and thrusts Kenobi backing away from Vader and making a couple of rather feeble small waves with the lightsaber and the saber (by its sounds especially) gives the impression that its fading. A nice metaphor for Kenobi's declining powers.
